The New York Yankees have been making critical moves this offseason. Given their infield still needs work, the team has been eyeing the Los Angeles Dodgers’ second baseman, Gavin Lux, as a potential filler. Now, last season, Jazz Chisolm Jr., a natural second baseman, took third base, but the Yankees are now willing to move him to his natural position for 100% greatness and, of course, comfort. For sure, the team would like to land Alex Bregman to take on the third, but there haven’t been any signs to indicate he will move to the Bronx.
This is why the Yankees cannot wait to pivot, and therefore, Gavin Lux enters the conversation. He was once a promising prospect, but during his time in LA, Lux’s play was marred with injuries and downtime. Not to mention, despite an extremely crowded roster, the Dodgers have signed KBO Hye Seong Kim, which has only added more to the infield surplus. So, Lux can be let go, and for the Yankees, it’s only a plus because he can make an impact. But like anything good—nothing comes easy; so, there is a catch!

Mariners ruin Gavin Lux’s plans for the New York Yankees
The Seattle Mariners are chasing after Lux too. Actually, they might be leading the charge. “The Yankees have shown some interest in a potential trade for Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Gavin Lux. However, sources say the Yankees expressed interest in Lux several weeks ago, and the Seattle Mariners have been more aggressive in pursuit of the infielder.” And it makes sense why the Mariners are in for Lux so aggressively.

They need to overhaul their offense, and their team ranked second-worst in batting average last season—so, they need change. For the team, Gavin Lux is a key player to push past the Houston Astros in the AL West. Now, as for the Yankees, time is running out; Lux could be the answer for strengthening their defense and adding stability to the infield.
The embarrassing performance because of poor defense in the World Series was evident in the pinstripes. However, they need to ask fast because the Mariners could swoop in quickly and claim the player they have their eyes on. And if they are waiting around for Bregman, it’s not a great idea—at least not according to some insiders.

Alex Bregman not landing in the Bronx
Ever since the New York Yankees missed out on Juan Soto, fans have been buzzing about getting another big player—Alex Bregman. The former Astros infielder is now a free agent and seems to be a perfect fit with the Yankees. The Astros simply don’t want to shell out $200 million for him, and with the market already during the Yankees, they could clinch him. But YES Network’s Jack Curry squashed the Bregman rumors on Yankees Hot Stove, saying the team isn’t really after him!

The Yankees are hoping DJ LeMahieu will bounce back; he has had some injury-riddled seasons, but the franchise still has trust in him. Plus, the Yankees have Oswald Peraza too, so they could look inside for an answer. Jon Heyman of the New York Post also backed the theory that Bregman and the Yankees aren’t a possibility. “Yankees, I’ll mention with Bregman, not gonna rule it out; third base isn’t completely solved. I don’t see that happening as a likelihood.”

Well, if DJ LeMahieu gets into his old form and if Peraza steps up, the Yankees have a great solution. Now spring training is just a few weeks away, so the clock is ticking on the Yankees. Whether Bregman or Gavin Lux, something needs to be decided fast because players missing spring training have shown dire results. Can’t forget Jordan Montgomery this season, right? So, do you think Bregman to the Yankees would be a smart move? Let us know in the comments.
