Captaincy is more than just leading the team onto the field. It is about creating a sense of bonding off the field, as well as building chemistry with teammates. New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge has done that since day 1, trying to connect with the younger prospects and mentor them. Most recently, he bought a teammate a special gift, to help bond with them off the field.

Judge has started his captaincy off well, helping lead the Yankees to an 8-5 record. Though their most recent game was a horrific loss, there is hope that they will bounce back. But he has seemingly embraced his new role to the fullest.

Be it interacting with the Yankees’ prospects or hyping up his teammates, Aaron Judge has embraced his leadership role. Most recently, he bought Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe a PS5 to play FIFA with him and bond off the field. While speaking to ESPN’s Marly Rivera, Judge said that it was his way of connecting with Volpe as a person. He further mentioned that he’d heard the 21-year-old mention the game in Spring Training.

According to ESPN’s Marly Rivera, Judge said, “It was my way of trying to connect with him and trying to know him as a person, particularly when it comes to the things that he enjoys off the field. And one thing that I picked up in spring training was hearing him talk about FIFA.” This was a gracious gesture from the Yankees’ captain.
