In a move that caught fans and excerpts somewhat off-guard, the New York Yankees signed Marcus Stroman. Many called it a bad move made of desperation, but Yankees GM Brian Cashman has now revealed the truth. While appearing on MLB Network Radio, he said that groundwork began in November with the GM meetings serving as a ground for discussion. After missing out on Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Bombers decided to pivot fast.

During the radio appearance, Cashman said, “Some groundwork was laid as early as November,” while also clarifying they were in the middle of the Yamamoto sweepstakes. Cashman further explained that after Yamamoto chose the Dodgers, they made a quick pivot to Stroman, who lives in Tampa.

Cashman then said, “So Boonie(Aaron Boone), you know, met with him at his house and they broke bread and had dialogue first and foremost. Um, I spoke with Marcus on the phone, had obviously many conversations with Brodie(Stroman’s agent)and rather quickly, this was something that made a lot of sense for all of us.”

This shines light on a somewhat divisive move for the team this off-season. Although Stroman may be outspoken and regret some things he said about the Yankees, he is a great pitcher. It will be interesting to see how he fits in and what he looks like in the upcoming season.
