The New York Yankees are spiraling. Amid a disastrous season, one not seen in decades, the club seems to be worsening with each game. Having lost 5 of their last games and yet to win a series this month, the Yankees occupy the last place in AL East. While the players are sure to be blamed, the front office has also been coming under consistent fire for their handling of the team.

The most recent case was Tuesday’s game against the Atlanta Braves, who whooped the Bronx Bombers with a stellar 5-0. The Yankees’ consistent losses this season have proved to be quite a hit for the reputation of the team. Reaching new lows every day, they even ranked on a rare milestone of flops recently.

New York Yankees Are in the Wrong Record Books

Playing against the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves, the Yankees apparently tried to bring out all the big guns. DJ LeMahieu joined in after an injury, and even Luis Severino was brought in. While fans still had some sympathy for LeMahieu, most have pity for Sevy at this point. Once a Pinstripes great, he is possibly the worst starter in the league this year. Yet, his team keeps making him take up the mound.

He started against the Braves in the second game on Tuesday, where he allowed five runs in four innings. No one was really surprised. As if that wasn’t enough, Talkin’ Baseball highlighted another fact. “The Yankees are the first team in MLB history to record one hit or fewer while hitting into at least four double plays in a game.”

Can the season get any worse? Tuesday’s game at Truist Park took a predictable turn. Just when Severino appeared to complete the first inning without a fault, he gave away five and incurred 12 misses on 41 swings. Despite this outing, the team’s skipper remains hopeful.

Manager Aaron Boone Remains Encouraged

Fans think Sevy needs a break, but so far, no such moves have been announced by the front office. Aaron Boone even praised the pitcher for what seemed like an improved performance. “I thought the life was there. It just felt like [he was pitching] with more conviction… Not a good line, but I think that was a much better Sevy than we’ve seen,” he told the New York Post.

However, his optimism is quite questionable. Is it viable to consider Severino’s performance good, especially when the Yankees as a team are failing disastrously? Fans have expressed how the Yankees, this season, have gone on to set records, but not in a good way.

The manager’s optimism through the not-so-great history being created, may have relieved the $40M pitcher, but the Bronx is still in disarray.
