2023 didn’t exactly roll out the red carpet for Aaron Boone. It was far from perfect. In fact, it was his worst year as manager, as the New York Yankees wrapped up with a less-than-stellar 82-80 record. However, the 50-year-old couldn’t have done too much differently. Despite the mixed reception at Yankee Stadium throughout the season, Boone seems to have dodged any major heat during the offseason. And with moves like this one, he’s certainly not fanning the flames.

As Christmas nears, Boone finds himself outside Yankee Stadium, channeling his inner Santa Claus. Though not donning the red suit, Boone is spreading joy and happiness against the backdrop of a Yankees offseason that’s starting to shine.

In addition to fan boos, Boone didn’t make many friends among the umps this past season either – he got tossed a whopping 7 times in 2023. Even though he’s caught plenty of flak in the Bronx, the Yanks skipper is no Grinch when it comes to the holidays. As Christmas draws near, Boone’s doing his part to spread some cheer, teaming up with the NYPD for a charity event to hand out gifts and grub to kids in the community.

Boonie was all smiles as he passed out toys and food packages outside the borough. Guess even a manager ejected as many times as Boone has a soft spot for the season of giving. As reported by Bryan Hoch, Boone “helped to pitch in at a pop-up food and toy event held at the @NYPD44Pct today, with @FoodBank4NYC”

A solid chunk of Yankees faithful might argue that Boone handled a tricky hand quite well. Between the never-ending injury saga and the dream of a more well-rounded roster, it’s easy to entertain the notion that 2023 could’ve been a whole different ballgame with a bit more luck.

Nevertheless, the season concluded with chants to Fire Cashman and Boone, and hopes of a massive overhaul. Though Juan Soto’s trade helped calm the volatile Big Apple, immense scrutiny will remain on the skipper as his 7th season approaches.
