The New York Mets are having a great offseason this year. Their offseason so far has been highlighted by the signing of All-Star-level shortstop Carlos Correa to a 12-year deal. But the Mets have recently shared some tragic news. The team reported that someone who left a deep impression on the organization has tragically passed away.

The person that they are referring to is none other than Jett Diaz, a 14-year-old prospect who was suffering from brain cancer. Diaz has unfortunately succumbed to the deadly disease, and the Mets shared a message in his honor.

The New York Mets have shared a Tweet in honor of Jett Diaz. The 14-year-old Diaz was battling brain cancer and tragically passed away earlier this week, just days before Christmas. Earlier this year, the Mets had signed him as a player with help from the Make-a-wish Foundation.

Following Diaz’s tragic passing, the NL team shared a Tweet saying, “We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of our teammate, Jett “Macho” Diaz. We send our condolences to his family and friends. Jett’s memory will forever be in our hearts. 8️⃣8️⃣ #machoaveragewarrior.”

Fans have reacted to this tweet and sent a lot of positive messages. Most of them are offering prayers and condolences to Diaz’s family. Some have even suggested that the Mets retire Diaz’s number 88 jersey.

The Mets not only signed Diaz to a contract but also gave him the whole experience of signing for them. The team arranged a press conference to announce the signing. But that wasn’t it. The team did much more for the young Mets fan.

The Mets helped Jett Diaz achieve his dreams

During his time with the Mets, Diaz was able to practice his batting and also meet some of his favorite players. Furthermore, the Mets even arranged for him to throw the ceremonial first pitch at a game.
