Uncertainty at the time of spring training blooming does not sit well. Well, that’s the case for the New York Mets for whom a shadow of obscurity looms over the team’s most ferocious slugger. Yes, it is Pete Alonso.

It has been established time and time again that playing for a lucrative contract carries a different kind of weight. On one hand, hitting a home run with the bases loaded does display great power. On the other, handling the insanity of pressure can go either way. An example that comes to mind is Michael Conforto who struggled in similar situations. While Brandon Nimmo thrived.
David Stearns was asked about the possibility of a Pete Alonso extension on @FoulTerritoryTV:
"We're certainly invested in keeping Pete a Met and I'm hopeful, over time, we'll be able to work that out."

He has been politely declining to comment about that by deflecting questions with statements about his love for the New York Mets. But one can’t turn a deaf ear to the chatter in the media along with fans’ conjecture. This sheds light on another aspect of uncertainty for the Mets.
While the Alonso saga unfurls, the Mets are faced with another important decision. How much trust to have on their young prospects, Brett Baty and Mark Vientos? Stearns speaks about the importance of providing opportunities. But but Baty’s inconsistent performance and Vientos’ on-base are too concerning to assume their immediate readiness.
