Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani are the two shoulders of the LA Angels. Even after having two of the best players by their side, the Angels have failed to succeed in MLB in the last few years. But there is an explanation for their fall. The Angels are too much dependent on Trout and Ohtani.

Let’s talk about Mike Trout’s run in the current season. Apart from Shohei Ohtani, Trout has been the best player for the Angels. But he has never been consistent. On his day, Trout would dominate any opposition, but he will also fail big time in an important game.

Talking about the same, Trout’s former teammate feels he is going through a rough phase in his professional career. It’s not that he is having a terrible season. But he is Mike Trout—a serial hitter of the game—and the expectations will always be high from the Angels slugger.

Is Mike Trout really having a poor season?

Though He is not a liability for the Angels, that’s for sure. But his inconsistency has hit the Angels many times this season. While batting from the plate, Trout has hit 23 home runs—the second-most in MLB—but the Angels star also went through his career-worst hitting slump (26 at-bats) in the same season.

His former teammate, Martin Maldonado, weighed his opinion on Trout’s inconsistency. Maldonado said that he has never seen Trout being strikeout so many times.

“I played with Trout for a year and a half. I’ve never seen him strike out that many times … I was shocked. It’s Mike Trout. You feel like every time he swings, he’s going to hit the ball out. We’re lucky that we probably found him this series in a bad spot,” Maldonado said.

Currently, a Houston Astros player, Maldonado played for the Angels in the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
