Home/MLB

Major League Baseball has been around for a century but as is the nature of time, things always evolve. From average players to great baseballers, from name changes to the introduction of division leagues, times have been eventful. From numerous rule changes to teams coming and going, MLB has seen it all. And one such relatively recent introduction was the team from Phoenix i.e., the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The D-Backs have been around since March 1995 and recently celebrated their 28th birthday. A member of the National League West division, the team is now among one of the most beloved franchises, and not just because of its quick growth. After all, dethroning the New York Yankees as World Series champions in 2001, just six years after their establishment, is no small deal.

As fans celebrate their favorite team’s birthday, there is one thing they’re mourning the loss of.

Arizona Diamondbacks fans want their classic jerseys back

How a team dresses is a big part of how they’re remembered. Just like how no baseball fan is likely to forget the iconic pinstripes on the Yankees, D-Backs fans are looking back to the old purple jerseys. The official uniform colors were purple, black, teal, and copper, with the logo simply saying ‘A’ in an italicized block letter. Now the livery looks a little different with red, black, and sand colors. The teal is back, along with the popular serpent sign.

And yet, the fans would much rather prefer purple. When the D-Backs’ official Twitter shared some old headshots of their players, fans couldn’t help but look back on the good ol’ days.

One fan reminisced about the retired pro baseballer Travis Lee, who was the starting first baseman in the inaugural season of the D-Backs.

The team has done well for itself this last decade. But some fans are leaning into superstition and think another World Series could be in their hands if only the purple was brought back!

The D-Backs – 28 years ago vs now

One only has to look at the stats to see how far they’ve come since their conception, which was already strong. The fastest expansion team in major league history to win the World Series, the Diamondbacks still remain the only men’s professional sports team to win a championship in Arizona.
