This off-season for the New York Yankees has been a rollercoaster ride. They had one big motto entering the off-season, which they claimed was their top priority—getting Juan Soto back in pinstripes! And they went back and forth and put in plenty of effort. So much so that Hal Steinbrenner, who isn’t much to talk about free agents, talked publicly. Plus, he even met up with Soto and explained to him the reason he was forthcoming during the 2024 season to the 26-year-old. Such was the team’s need for Soto!

But it seems like Soto had made up his mind. And despite the team offering him reportedly $760 million plus a signing bonus, he decided to head straight to their crosstown rivals. New York Mets had given him $765 million, plus a suite, security, premium seats, and the list goes on. Since then, the New York Yankees have moved on. They were quick to pivot and added key players to the roster. Recently, Boone, in an interview, hushed the Soto topic and just focused on how perfect his new team is.

The New York Yankees roster is making everyone almost go, Wow! They look well-rounded, and many are saying that they might be one of the best teams going in 2025. Even Boone is feeling confident about the team’s future. He was recently at the MLB Network’s MLB Hot Stove, and he shared his excitement in three words. “I’m fired up,” said Boone. He hushed Soto’s topic and said every winter presents a different route. “You’re never going to have a perfect team, right?” said Boone.

The New York Yankee manager made it clear that no team is without flaws. They just have to make the most of what they have. He emphasized, “Some years, you’re gonna hammer a strength, or you’re gonna hammer the offense because that’s what’s available to you.” However, he explained that bringing in players like Max Fried as frontline starters is good. Plus, he is excited about Devin Williams.

Boone wanted to get Williams for a couple of years to help close out games, and so he is finally here. As far as the bigger additions, Boone said, “And then [Goldschmidt] and [Bellinger] coming in… I know they’re both going to be great in our room.” For him, they bring that two-way player to the scene as they are good defensively and run bases well, too. He added that, hopefully, the next season will be as successful and “then a little bit more,” with a big smile. Well, it remains to be seen if their losing out on Juan Soto will be a blessing in disguise.

The MLB free-agent market has a handful of key players right now. The Yankees, however, are not looking for bigger signings, given they already splurged. However, it seems like there is one name even they can’t stop thinking about, and that’s David Robertson. He had a great year with the Texas Rangers. The veteran reliever is apparently up for a reunion with the Yankees. And honestly, it does feel just right!

Robert Robertson would be the perfect addition to the bullpen, bringing experience and leadership to the team. Even Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Reports thinks so, calling the Yankees the ideal team for Robertson to end his career. “As this year will be Robertson’s age-40 season, it stands to reason that his desire to go out with a bang has only strengthened,” said Rymer. But really, what better way to hang up cleats than in a city where you have already cemented your legacy?

But for Robertson, it’s not just nostalgia; it’s a chance to get a shot at possibly getting championship rings one last time. He has shown promise to thrive in the bright lights of New York; he can do it again. But of course, free agency is unpredictable, and anything can happen.

If I ask you whether the Yankees will sign Robertson back or not, what will your answer be? Let us know in the comments.
