A recently signed star of the San Diego Padres showed off his lucrative contract by splurging on a customized $170,000 car. 

That player is none other than the seven-time all-star, designated hitter, Nelson Cruz. In the 2022 off-season, the slugger signed a $1 million contract for a year after playing for seven different teams in the league. And with his recent purchase, Cruz flexed his lucrative contract. 

Which car did the San Diego Padres buy?

Alex Vega of The Auto Firm posted on his Instagram handle the picture of a $170,000 beast that Cruz got customized. The car is a blacked-out Mercedes Benz GLS 600 Maybach, which can go from zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds.

Beside the picture, Vega wrote, “Mercedes Benz GLS 600 Maybach… All blacked out… Done for my boy @ncboomstick23 of the San Diego Padres….”

Cruz’s contract with the Padres came after an average year with the Washington Nationals in 2022. Cruz remained in the Tampa Bay Rays for the second half of the 2021 season, after which, he signed a one-year $12 million contract with the Nationals in 2022.

How did the Padres star play in 2022?

Even though Nelson Cruz recorded the 2000th hit of his career, he ended the 2022 season with ten home runs and 64 RBIs in 124 games at DH, grounding into 16 double plays in NL.

With it, at 42 years, Cruz became one of the oldest qualified batters in Major League Baseball. However, despite the records, the athlete’s name remains convoluted with the Biogenesis Scandal, as he was one of the 13 players to get banned from the game.
