Deion Sanders' half-circle routine: Genius strategy or just another flashy move? What's your take?

If there’s one thing that unites all sports, it’s superstitions. Legendary NFL and MLB player Deion Sanders has also revealed his own story. However, more than belief, it was his circumstances that forced that superstition on him. The Colorado Buffaloes coach recently appeared on Buffs TV’s podcast. While talking about his football coaching journey, Sanders stumbled upon his baseball history. As everyone knows, Sanders is one of those few players who have excelled in two different sports. On top of that, he has played in major franchises like the New York Yankees. So is it any surprise that Sanders has some great stories related to America’s favorite pastime?

This time Sanders told a story when his routine led to some wild comments. Talking about baseball superstitions, Sanders revealed his own unique pre-at-bat routine. “I used to draw a half circle in a line,” Sanders said, continuing, “I grew up in the city I played both sides, I played across the towns and played in the hood…We didn’t have all the bells and whistles, didn’t have batter boxes so I used to draw half circle where I put my front foot and back foot.” While that was something he was forced to do, it later became a major habit of Sanders.

So, despite him being a major league player, Deion Sanders always drew a circle. But one day, that led to a weird accusation; “I remember playing for the Yankees, this idiot said I drew a dollar sign in the sand. You got to be kidding, you know this is on television, right? It’s a camera right there!”  Sanders recalled, which was frustrating for him. The fact that he had been doing this since childhood was obviously hidden from the person.

The host further revealed how Sanders’ habit of making circles routinely frustrated catchers. This time-taking habit bewildered everyone, but for Sanders, it was necessary. “That’s just what I did,” he said, but was Sanders alone with his superstitions? Not at all.

Derek Jeter and Bryce Harper join Deion Sanders with their superstition

C.C. Sabathia recently revealed the highly superstitious ways of the New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter. The legendary captain had gone 5-for-5 in a game after eating soul food. Naturally, Jeter imagined that it was due to the restaurant he went to. And Lo behold, the star was back in that same spot the very next day in his bid to improve his luck. While that didn’t work, it showed just how superstitious Jeter was.

Similarly, during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2013, Bryce Harper revealed his own unique pre-game ritual. The Philadelphia Phillies star takes seven showers and eats waffles right before every game! Pitchers too have their fair share of connections with superstitions. Even Justin Verlander needs to eat a meal from Taco Bell before his start. Perhaps that’s why Deion Sanders noted that “baseball is very superstitious”, while football is “kinda” superstitious.
