New York, also known as The City That Never Sleeps, boasts larger-than-life stories. The city has catered to different success stories, especially in the world of sports. Whether it’s NBA, NHL, NFL, or MLB, teams from New York City have made it to the top. With this, many star athletes, including Mark Messier, Joe NamathPatrick Ewing, Babe Ruth, and Derek Jeter, have made NY their home. However, when fans were questioned to name the best four among them, the responses varied widely.

All these players made it to the history books of their respective sports and the elite league of athletes from the city. Though they have retired, their names still hold their golden place amongst the best. When someone tries to find the best four from these sports, it brings a lot of conflicts. A similar thing happened as fans tried to get the best four cross-sports team into shape. 

Fans stuck with the name of Babe Ruth and Derek Jeter

In the history of the New York Yankees, Babe Ruth and Derek Jeter hold a prominent place. Although Ruth was a once-in-a-generation player, Jeter is not short of accomplishments. Both share success stories and which makes them close competitors, generations apart. The same happened when NBC Sports questioned, “If you had to name the FOUR most iconic athletes to play in New York, who would make your list?

The list included Mark Messier, Joe Namath, Patrick Ewing, and Derek Jeter. Though many fans made changes to the list entirely, it was conflicting for baseball fans, especially from New York.

The conflict happened when many fans agreed with Jeter’s suggestion, while others disagreed and suggested the name of Babe Ruth instead. Here are a few of the tweets reflecting the same!

Fans in the majority have put Ruth in place of Jeter. But when it comes to placing the two in baseball history, these two names will stay together.

Ruth and Jeter are two of the brightest stars in the New York Yankees’ history

Both Ruth and Jeter played together for two years and more. The two shared similar scoring power and scored thousands of runs. Ruth scored 2174 runs and 714 home at an average of 0.342. In comparison, Jeter scored 1,923 runs and 260 home runs at an average of 0.310.
