Smashing three home runs, including a grand slam, the Captain snapped the Pinstripes’ nine-game losing streak last night. As is the case every time, it brought to mind the AL’s other powerhouse – Shohei Ohtani.

The Los Angeles Angels two-way phenomenon has been a force to behold this season. Easily the top MVP contender among both fans and analysts, Ohtani is now getting ready to break MLB’s largest contract deal come fall. However, before discussing what is sure to be a humungous paycheck, fans are comparing a Judge and Ohtani sponsorship deal. More accurately, one that the Yankees captain was successful in receiving while the Halos player was not.

Last night, Judge was practically a one-man army against the Washington Nationals. On the other hand, while Shohei Ohtani has no doubt been a spectacular presence in Los Angeles, the Angels just announced some terrible news. Because of a torn UCL, the Japanese phenom will not pitch again this season.

While Ohtani is a powerful hitter, what makes him stand apart from the rest of MLB is his two-way talent. The Yankees captain has spent a majority of the season on the IL, reducing his playing time. In his absence though, it was Ohtani who took over the league as baseball’s unicorn, breaking records left and right. And yet, one of the most coveted athlete brand sponsorship deals went not to him but to the Yankees captain.

Brand endorsements are all about gauging fan interest through famous figures. For a significant portion of 2023, Shohei Ohtani ranked miles above Aaron Judge. Not only that, but many truly didn’t expect Judge to return at all, much less back to his MVP form. Given the three home runs, the Yankee’s first in a single game, it seems like Michael Jordan may have bet on the right player after all.

Aaron Judge’s Massive Feat Comes With Some Teammate Teasing

Despite being named the AL MVP for his home run antics last season, there was always one club that eluded Judge from its membership. He had never hit more than two home runs in a single game, until last night. It was something his Yankee teammates, Kyle Higashioka and Anthony Rizzo, had accomplished, however, and even teased him about it.

“He [Higashioka] would always remind me, every game I’d have two and I couldn’t get the third one: ‘Hey, one of these days, kid, you’ll join my club,'” Judge said after the game yesterday.

Well, it took 801 games but the Yankee captain has finally done it!
