However, back in 2016, when he was still with the Cleveland Cavaliers, King James placed a bet with Chicago Bulls’ shooting guard, Dwyane Wade, who also happens to be his close friend. The wager was placed on the 2016 World Series when James supported the Cleveland Indians (now Cleveland Guardians), while Wade was supporting the Chicago Bulls.

How did LeBron James embarrass himself in Chicago?

The bet concluded in Wade’s favor after the Chicago Cubs won the World Series in the decider game. And as promised, King James had to visit Chicago fully dressed up in the Chicago Cubs kit.

The wager, as explained by Dwyane Wade, stated, “The bet is this. We are both fashion guys, we both love to dress. We both love to feel good and look good. So, whoever’s team loses, the loser has to show up during the NBA season, to the other guy’s home game, dressed as the team who won.”

Dwyane Wade adds, “Example: If the Chicago Cubs win, in December, when Cleveland comes to Chicago, you have to show up, dressed as a Chicago Cub. And vice versa. If the Cleveland Indians win, in January, when we come to town, I walk in dressed like Cleveland Indians.”

The World Series in 2016 went on to the ultimate decider game, and the Cleveland Guardians emerged victorious after staging a glorious comeback and winning the last three games consecutively.

How did King James contribute to breaking the 100-year-long Cubs curse?

From 1906 to 1910, the Chicago Cubs appeared in four World Series Championships. In 1907 and 1908, the Cubs won two consecutive World Series Rings. However, since then, a lot has changed. And in the last 112 years, they failed to win a single World Series, despite six appearances.

In 2016, though, the curse was broken, and the Cubs won their third championship. With this, their 100-year curse also came to a fitting end – thanks to LeBron James, and his bad luck.

In 2022. Chicago Cubs ranked number three in the National League Central Division and failed to make the postseason.
