With only a few seconds left, and the Lakers being up by three points, the Lakers were almost through to the playoffs. But to the Timberwolves’ luck, a foul by Anthony Davis gave Mike Conley Jr. three shots. Conley didn’t miss. And the first play in a tournament game reached over time with both, Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers at 98 points.

The Lakers, however, dominated the overtime by scoring ten points and not allowing the Timberwolves to score more than four. On the final whistle, the Lakers were at 108, while the Timberwolves were at 102. And the game ended with a distraught Alex Rodriguez, whose string of good luck didn’t show up during an all-important play-in game.

Throughout the regular season, A-Rod has stuck by the Timberwolves as a pillar of support. The ex-Yankees slugger attended a majority of their home games and also traveled with the team on occasion. In A-Rod’s presence, the Timberwolves won many games, but that wasn’t the case last night.

However, his fair share of good luck ran out, and the Timberwolves lost to the Lakers in overtime with LeBron James starring, and scoring 30 points.

Can the Minnesota Timberwolves still make the playoffs?

Being in the 8th position in the Western Conference, the Timberwolves still stand a chance of making it to the playoffs despite their narrow Lakers loss. On Friday, the A-Rod-owned Minnesota team will take on the winner of the game between the Pelicans and Thunder, positioned at 9th and 10th, respectively. The winner of that game will play the Denver Nuggets in the playoffs.
