It was an absolute display of dominance. The Texas Rangers won 12-0 against the Los Angeles Angels in a washout victory, showing exactly why they’re one of the top teams this year. Not only was it the Max Scherzer show, the offense was on fire with its early lead. Before the game started, fans at Globe Life Park, or Choctaw Stadium, were treated to some NBA fun.

The Dallas Mavericks’ rookie power forward, Dereck Lively II, has overtaken the league this year. The 7’1″ star appeared at the Rangers’ game to throw out the first ceremonial pitch yesterday. But fans noticed how a Texas entity had to resort to unconventional methods to stand up to Lively’s tall stature.

The beauty of baseball is that height is never a barrier. Whether a player is talented, no matter where a visual chart marks them. The average height among MLB players is around 6’2″, but anomalies exist. From Aaron Judge‘s 6’7″ to Jose Altuve’s 5’6″, players on both spectrums exist. Still, they’re equally dominant on the diamond. Unlike baseball, basketball’s rules dictate that the taller the player, the better their probability of success.

Derek Lively II stands at an enormous height, so when he posed for a picture after throwing the first pitch yesterday, some hilarity arose. The Maverick was standing next to the Rangers’ assistant Tony Beasley, highlighting the stark contrast between his 7’1″ and Beasley’s 5’8″.

Taking drastic measures, the Ranger ultimately stood up on a stool, and only then could he match the NBA rookie. What a hilarious comparison between a 19-year-old and a 56-year-old! Neither of the two can stop laughing as someone records the moment on camera. Fortunately, the smiles didn’t end after the game was over.

New York seems to have fallen under a curse this season, as neither of its MLB teams seems to know how to improve performance. The Mets traded away their two star co-aces, Justin Verlander back to Houston, and Scherzer to Texas. Getting out of New York seems to do wonders for them, as Scherzer just gave a brilliant start yesterday.

In fact, he joined an exclusive club, that incidentally also includes Verlander, as well as Nolan Ryan and Randy Johnson. Monday’s game saw Mad Max pitch seven innings, striking out 11 while allowing just one hit. That tallies up to six career games with 10+ strikeouts and either zero or one hit allowed, the fourth most in MLB according to ESPN Stats & Info.
