Despite his tainted past, the legacy of Barry Bonds is still alive today. The former San Francisco Giants player dominates the MLB world as the home run king among endless hitting records. Although a Hall of Fame entry still eludes him, and probably always will since his ten years of eligibility are over, his influence on the sport is undeniable.

Parents are often the unspoken champions of their kids, always supporting their dreams. Support was necessary in a profession that takes one to the spotlight, especially the kind of attention Bonds received. And he had it in his family, particularly his mom.
The former Giants player’s achievements overshadow almost all other facts about him but one. Actually, when one thinks of Bonds, one thinks of PEDs, but before then, he was known as the son of Bobby Bonds, another major leaguer. However, the young player has stated before that while his dad supported his career, his mother is really the one he was closer to.
In an interview with his former team a few years ago, the Giants player opened up about everything baseball. “My mom was the backbone who kept everybody together. I mean, everybody knows my dad played baseball. You know, my dad had a little bit of a drinking problem at those times. So my mom kind of, like, my mom was always at the Little League games. She was always in the snack bar…she always drove us.” he told Renel Brooks-Moon.

Patricia Bonds never stopped supporting her son, even as a grown-up, and inspired him to take a different baseball job.

After the drug allegation against the player came to light, the MLB world’s perception of Barry Bonds was changed entirely. He was actively shunned by the sport. But slowly and steadily, time did its magic, and people moved on. Bonds was still undeniably talented, and the Miami Marlins wanted him to become a coach.

Unsure he could live that lifestyle again, he talked with his mom, who encouraged him to try it, at least. And so he did. Bonds may still not be popular with many today, but his emotional side is undoubtedly appealing to some.
