Just days prior, Brenton Doyle, the Colorado Rockies outfielder, who has been an outstanding player and 2x Golden Glover, was placed on a bereavement list. He didn’t play against the Washington Nationals on April 18, 2025. Fans were left wondering what happened. Just today, in a heartfelt post on social media, Doyle revealed the devastating news behind his absence. It’s a loss no parent should ever have to face.
Doyle and his wife, Rose, were heartbroken to learn that their baby no longer had a heartbeat. They were at a routine 12-week checkup on April 17 when they found out.
Doyle, in his Instagram post, shared the news, “This is a post we never thought we would have to write. April 17th, at Rose’s 12-week check-up, our baby no longer had a heartbeat. We have lost our baby. We cannot describe nor fathom the amount of heartbreak we have had to endure these past couple of days.” And as raw and as painful as his words were, it was the image that he posted alongside the message that said even more.

The image had the number 999 on it, nothing else. But it has a deeper meaning, as it is often seen as a symbol of transition. It’s an ending that carries the promise of something beyond what one can even understand. In the context of Doyle’s post, it felt like a quiet goodbye to the soul that was there, if only briefly. Doyle also shared that he is taking the time to reflect and process this entire experience. However, he expressed his gratitude for all the support from his friends and family.
“While we take the time to grieve this tremendous loss, we cherish our privacy but treasure the love, support, and kindness that has come our way by family and friends.” Doyle wrote. Right now, the baseball world is coming together, offering their condolences and understanding for the couple.

This is something that was seen last season during the entire Freddie Freeman’s son’s health scare. His son was diagnosed with a rare neurological problem and rushed to the emergency department. In pain, one user said, “🙏🏼❤️ God bless you guys.” And Brenton might find comfort in knowing that while they might not forget, they can get better—time heals. A similar thing had happened with Cody Allen. He was on the road while his wife was alone and miscarried. And as you would imagine, that helplessness he felt was immense. But with his family’s support, he moved on with life. And for the Rockies star, he can expect the same, but it takes time.
For Brenton, this is just the beginning of a hard road. But as he has always said, family is everything, so he will be able to cross this huge tide too.
