Is Decoy the real MVP, overshadowing even the biggest names in baseball with his charm?

On Friday, Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers took to the streets for a vibrant victory parade in downtown Los Angeles. A celebration that had been long awaited. This time, the festivities were extra special, as the team and its fans finally got to commemorate their World Series win in person—a celebration denied to them during the 2020 championship due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Everyone attended the parade including a fan favorite. Shohei Ohatni’s dog, Decoy. Japanese slugger brought a delightful touch to the victory parade by carrying his beloved dog, Decoy, who was proudly wearing an Ohtani jersey. A regular presence at Dodger Stadium throughout the season, Decoy has stolen the hearts of fans and became a cherished mascot for the team.

The much-loved Decoy was the star of the parade as he nestled comfortably in Shohei Ohtani’s arms on the top deck of a double-decker bus. With his charming demeanor and playful spirit, Decoy has become a beloved fixture not only among Dodgers fans but also in the broader world of dog lovers. In a memorable moment earlier this season, Decoy was perched on Ohtani’s lap when the star learned he had made history as the first player in Major League Baseball to be unanimously selected as Most Valuable Player—twice!

After the victorious celebration, Decoy made a special appearance in MLB’s Instagram page. Fans were treated to snapshots of Decoy being petted and loved by those around him. Now netizens on Instagram have flooded the comments sections with some comparing the dog to Yankees players. Yikes! But now that our favorite dog is part of the World Series win parade, he is sure ahead of some players who haven’t even been part of the winning parade even once.

Have an interesting take?

Decoy has become a popular entity now. The fact that he is getting posted on MLB’s official social media platforms is saying a lot. One of the strong comments that popped out was “That dog got more rings than Judge, Machado and Tatis combined” All of them haven’t won a single championship to date, making their ring count zero. Compared to Decoy, who has added one now to his resume.

Another comment read“Decoy got a ring before the Padres.” The Padres haven’t won a single championship since their inception. They’re now the oldest team without a World Series title. It’s not just the players being scrutinized in the comments sections, but teams, too! “This dog is getting the experience many players wish they could,” another user wrote on the post. That’s true, many players haven’t experienced or know what it feels like to win the World Series title. But Ohtani’s dog, Decoy sure does now. Wearing a #17 jersey, he was all dressed ready to steal the show.

Other than the above comparisons, the comments also showcased the love fans have for Decoy, with one commenter emphasizing “I’d go only to see Decoy.” Decoy’s fan following has been growing like crazy; Shohei Ohtani shines on the field, but his furry sidekick steals all the attention off the field. Another comment read, “We need a release of a Decoy jersey”

Well, what number do you think would Decoy dawn? Would it be #17 just like his dad, Shohei Ohtani, or would he get his own number? Share in the comments below.
