The Tokyo series 2025 is currently having its fair share of jaw-dropping moments. One of those moments that completely stole the spotlight was when Mookie Betts had a special supporter in the stands. While the fans were all in to witness the action on the field, she was there, front and center.
That supporter is none other than his wife, Brianna Betts. She was all in cheering from the sidelines, repping for her husband’s No. 50 jersey with immense pride. Brianna wasn’t alone; she was joined by Holly Robinson Peete, the actress and singer known for her love for baseball and longtime ties to the Dodgers. She took it to Instagram and shared some bits and pieces of her striking tribute to Mookie amidst his injury setback.
Unfortunately, Mookie Betts was sidelined due to his illness which led to a substantial weight loss of nearly 15 pounds. He’s now focusing on regaining his strength for the upcoming domestic opener. The Dodgers fans are anxiously waiting for updates on Mookie’s health and recovery.

The Los Angeles Dodgers kicked off their 2025 season at the Tokyo Dome, but the prominent void of Mookie Betts was felt by everyone present in the stadium. The star shortstop was sidelined due to a lingering stomach virus, which took a serious toll on his health.
Betts was already feeling unwell before the team’s departure from Arizona. He had medical assurances that he could travel to Japan, but unfortunately, his health worsened upon arrival. He missed the Dodgers’ initial workout at the Dome and also struggled during the drills ahead of their exhibition games.

Concerned with his diminished physical state, manager Dave Roberts signaled that Betts might miss the Tokyo series. Later, this signal became reality when Roberts confirmed that Betts had returned to Los Angeles early to recuperate. This illness was quite challenging for Betts. It led to significant weight loss and dehydration. Since 9th March 2024, he hasn’t played, and the team is hesitant about hurrying his comeback, in order to prevent any potential connective tissue injuries.
Betts was prepared to display his adaptability by returning to the shortstop position this season. This move had all the fans and MLB analysts buzzing. Amidst Betts’ exit, the Dodgers have turned to Miguel Rojas to fill his shoes for the shortstop role. Rojas offers significant experience and reliability to the position, but filling Betts’ void isn’t easy.
The Dodgers are facing more such challenges, as Freddie Freeman was scratched from the Opening Day lineup due to left rib discomfort experienced amidst the batting practice. Currently, the timeline remains uncertain for Betts’ return. The Dodgers will be playing the exhibition Freeway Series from March 23–25, but it’s hard to tell if Betts will be available or not. The primary goal is to make sure he’s fit and ready for the domestic Opening Day on March 27.
