What a turn of fate for the Dodgers superstar, Mookie Betts! Just as if he was about to make a recovery after that sudden drop in weight earlier, he remains on the sidelines again because of an illness. Earlier during the Tokyo Series, the Dodgers didn’t include him in the lineup and sent him back home owing to an illness that led to shedding around 15 pounds. Will he make a quick comeback to the mound?
Well, the Los Angeles Dodgers were planning to get him at least four innings of play when facing the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. But, given his health status, it seems Mookie Betts will not be a part of the team. Betts even revealed that his weight has drastically reduced to just 150 pounds from 175 pounds, and the meals he can currently consume are smoothies. So, how long will it take to make a recovery?
Well, there’s no specific time for the recovery process; however, Mookie Betts has shown progress but still can’t consume solid foods. He is on medication, and the doctors are constantly looking to get him back to work, ensuring that the irritation in his stomach gradually subsides.

On March 24, the Dodgers Insider shared a post on X, where Betts is found saying, “So looks like I’m just going to be light for a little bit. Maybe I play uphill a little bit for the beginning of the season. But I just want to play, man. I’m tired of sitting, tired of just throwing up, tired of doing all this. I just really just want to play.”

It’s true for a player of his mettle who had an impressive 2024 season. Mookie Betts played 116 games, where he posted.289/.372/.491 slash line, along with scoring 19 home runs and 75 RBIs too. Betts even managed to bat at an average of .222 during the 2024 NLDS, where he hit consecutive home runs while facing off the San Diego Padres after Jurickson Profar robbed one in game number 2.
So, it’s evident for him to feel exhausted and restless sitting back at home. But yes, he is undergoing some blood tests too, which have come back clean.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Miguel Rojas truly fill the void left by Mookie Betts, or is it wishful thinking?

However, it’s unlikely that Mookie Betts will be ready to play in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ opener against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday.
The Dodgers are on the lookout for a perfect replacement for Mookie Betts
It came as a shock for many after Mookie Betts’ name was sidelined from the lineup for the Sunday game against the Angels. However, Betts confirmed he couldn’t keep the food down, and that’s the reason behind him not opting to play. While this is a worrying sign for the Los Angeles Dodgers, their beat writer Fabian Ardaya’s statement raises some speculation regarding Betts’ replacement.
The Dodgers are likely looking to go with their $11 million prospect, Miguel Rojas, to replace Betts, and he is slated to be a part of Opening Day. Think that makes sense?

Well, Miguel Rojas can be a perfect starting option at the shortstop, as he was included in the lineup during the Tokyo Series. Rojas batted at an average of .283 in 2024, having 307 AB and posting six home runs as well. While he might not be as effective as Mookie Betts, Dave Roberts feels that having Rojas start at the shortstop could at least fill the gap that the Dodgers faced earlier after Betts was out because of illness.
The Dodgers aren’t in a hurry to bring Betts back, as the situation may go haywire. So, they would like Betts to take some time and gradually recover rather than trying to make a quick comeback in the domestic season opener, where the Dodgers will face the Tigers.
