The Dodgers’ Tokyo trip has hit an unexpected curveball, and it’s got nothing to do with pitching. As speculation swirls over his availability, Mookie Betts broke his silence with a delightfully unhelpful two-word update. For a player known for making headlines with his bat and glove, this time, it’s his immune system stealing the show.
The start of spring was an exciting one for Betts, and he was very excited for the new season. But things have not gone according to his plan as the Dodgers star is down with an illness and this has the fan base and the management worried.
Mookie Betts did travel with the Dodgers to Japan for the games. But when asked about his health, he replied, “I’m alive.” This might be a sarcastic comment but his health is a serious worry for the team.

Bill Plunkett reported that Mookie Betts might not be available for the opening game and might also miss the entire Tokyo Series. Well, even Betts’ tone during the response indicated that he is not fully recovered. He also seemed to doubt whether he would be able to make it to the team sheet.
#Dodgers Mookie Betts made it to Tokyo Dome Saturday and was asked how he was feeling. "I'm alive," he said in a tone that made it clear he'd had his doubts over the past few days. As he shakes off a virus, his availability for the opener is in questionhttps://t.co/rYKH219AqJ

It is all not bad news as he was seen taking ground balls before the exhibition game against the Yomiuri Giants. He was able to get to the ball and throw it for quite some time which shows that he is recovering well. But will it be in time for the season opener? That’s a question only time can answer!
For now, Betts remains under doubt, and the Dodgers are stuck playing the waiting game. Whether he takes the field in Tokyo or just logs miles on his frequent flyer account, one thing is certain—his flu game won’t be as legendary as Michael Jordan’s.

Dave Roberts gives an update on Mookie Betts’ situation
Just days before Opening Day, the Dodgers are dealing with a plot twist they didn’t script—Mookie Betts is battling an illness instead of opposing pitchers. While fans anxiously await his return, Dave Roberts stepped up with an update that’s part reassurance, part mystery. Will Betts be ready in time, or is this just the season’s first curveball?
Dave Roberts has stated that Mookie Betts might be available for Opening Day against the Cubs. However, his availability will depend on how things progress. “Mookie is here today, but he’s been really sick. Lost some weight, so we’re trying to get him hydrated. He’s going to work out a little today, but he won’t be playing either tonight or tomorrow. Then, when we have our off day, our workout day, we’ll see how he is.”
It is already confirmed that Mookie Betts will sit out both the exhibition games. His opening day start is still in question with no decision made. So, there is a little hope for Dodgers fans after all.

For now, Betts remains in limbo, with his MLB Opening Day status hanging in the balance. The Dodgers are hopeful, but hydration can only do so much. If he suits up against the Cubs, it’ll be a last-minute victory—if not, well, at least he’s getting his flu game out of the way early. Think he will be back in time?
