The Texas Rangers have been at the top of their game all season long. From careful and considered draft picks to garnering worldwide attention after a successful World Series clinch, they have been setting records throughout 2023. But their success streak seems to have come to a sudden halt.

The Rangers have been having a tough time sorting out their financial resources for the next year following the imminent termination of a TV deal they had going with a local channel. They are one of the biggest contenders for promising prospects in this year’s free agency market. Will Texas be able to overcome this uncertain stint and carry on toward a winsome future?

For any team that wins the World Series, it brings a steady stream of revenue, depending on whether they restructure their payrolls for the next season. It wasn’t any different with the Texas Rangers, either. But according to an Athletic report, their TV deal with the Diamond Sports Group coming to an end this year, things seem a bit haywire.

The club signed its original deal with Fox Sports Southwest for a $3 billion, 20-year contract back in 2010. It was later purchased by the DSG and transformed into Bally Sports Southwest back in 2019.

That deal is reportedly falling through as Bally Sports and its parent company, DSG, have come to an agreement with their creditors to dissolve the remaining contracts for the 2024 season. Part of the agreement also states that Bally Sports cannot broadcast any baseball games played by the team either. How is the deal instrumental in putting the Texas Ranger’s future in a chokehold as of now?

The deal is currently waiting for a judge’s approval. Once it goes through, it’s the end of a fruitful deal for the Texas Rangers. As of now, there has been no news of the team seeking out any other similar television deal. That puts a high risk on the team’s stakes, given that it has so many heavy payroll players on their roster. Who are the ones that the Rangers have to pay the most for in the coming season?

Jacob deGrom stands at the top with his $40 million salary. Corey Seager follows closely with a $35 million annual payroll. Marcus Semien, Max Scherzer, Nathan Eovaldi, Jon Gray, and Andrew Heaney linger just a little behind, with $26 million, $22.5 million, $17 million, $13 million, and $13 million projected salaries for the next season, respectively.
