Blake Snell and the New York Yankees have been linked multiple times this off-season. Rumors had continued to float through the MLB universe despite the Bombers signing Marcus Stroman. But in the latest update, an MLB insider has reportedly dashed the team’s chances of signing the lefty ace.

Snell’s free agency has been a slow and, at times, complicated affair. Although teams have shown interest, there is a massive price gap and other red flags. This was the case with the Yankees as well, who had made an offer to him. But amidst underlying hopes, the team is seemingly out of the running

Although the New York Yankees had seemingly bowed out of the Blake Snell sweepstakes, hope remained in signing the 2023 NL Cy Young winner. But in the latest update, Jon Heyman has seemingly quashed those hopes. In his latest statement, Heyman revealed that the Yankees are unlikely to sign Blake Snell after picking up Marcus Stroman.

In a video uploaded on B/R Walk-Off’s X account, Heyman said, “The Yankees did make an offer somewhat before they ended up signing Stroman. Once they signed Stroman, it does feel like its unlikely now that Snell will wind up a Yankee. This seemingly closed the chances of the Bombers signing Snell. But Heyman is leaving a door open just in case.

He said, “I’m not going to rule anything out, don’t wan to be wrong. You never know, in free agency things are very very unpredictable. So, possible Snell could still wind up with the Yankees but at this point I’m going to say its unlikely that Snell does wind up with the Yankees. But despite these words of hope, a deal seems unlikely, as the reason for their initial breakdown still poses a problem.

Snell’s valuation is far from what the Yankees are offering

The New York Yankees’ talks with Blake Snell broke down over a difference in valuations. Snell and his agent, Scott Boras, were reportedly expecting a deal in the range of $240 to $270 million. But the Yankees had offered a pact in the region of $150 million. This gulf in valuations will prove difficult to bridge, even if the Bombers desperately wanted Snell.
