The off-season has been a sea of change for the New York Yankees. Old faces have departed and fresh talent has joined the Bronx-based team. But at the center of the Yankees’ present and near future is still Aaron Judge. But most recently, Bronx Bombers skipper Aaron Boone announced an update regarding Judge’s position.
Aaron Judge played a key role in the Yankees’ season last year, when he was healthy. But the superstar slugger saw several injuries that sidelined him. Now, as Spring Training nears, fans will hope he is at his best, especially with a new position in the plans.

Aaron Judge was pegged to play left field for the first time last season. But with injuries and other factors, it didn’t work out. Now, with the 2024 season nearing, Yankees Skipper Aaron Boone seems to be ready to go back to that plan.
During a recent appearance on the Foul Territory podcast, Boone revealed his plans for the outfield after the Yankees’ recent additions. He spilled the beans that Judge is set to cover both outfield and designated hitter (DH) positions, venturing into left field in addition to his previous stints in right field and center field throughout his career.
While appearing on Foul Territory Boone said, “I’m planning on playing Judgey in center a lot. He’s preparing for it now. You know, the one thing is when I play him in center, I tend to use the DH with him a little bit more often. So you know, if he’s playing most days in centerfield, especially with Trent Grisham on the roster now who’s an elite defender out there and more of that balance.”

Boone further said, “He’ll obviously get some reps out there, I can even use the DH there for Judge sometimes. I’ve even talked to Judgey about playing a little bit of left field on a certain day when I want to get Grisham in the outfield, which he’s open to.”
Alex Verdugo is also set to play in the outfield a lot, with left field seemingly being his main role. But Aaron Judge is also going to have his time out there on the left side of the outfield. The Yankees’ captain will be playing this position for the first time in MLB. Considering his injury history and size, Judge should be playing less damaging positions, to preserve his body.
