The Los Angeles Dodgers are making big offseason moves. After winning the World Series, they are going all in the market. Their pitching lineup in 2024 was already beautiful. But this season they are looking to take things up on a different level. They have just been linked with another top pitcher who might just be the piece for their next World Series ring.

The Dodgers are looking for Kirby Yates, the sensational closer for the Texas Rangers last year with an amazing 1.17 ERA and 33 saves, attending the All-Star game in the 2024 MLB season. This would make the Dodgers’ star pitching lineup with Shohei Ohtani, Tanner Scott, Roki Sasaki, and Blake Snell even more powerful. Don’t you agree?

However, this deal is not yet official. But Bob Nightengale reported via X, “The Los Angeles Dodgers, who already have folks screaming about their payroll, have reached a tentative agreement with free-agent closer Kirby Yates, pending a physical. The deal comes on the heels of signing Tanner Scott to a 4-year, $72 million contract.”

Kirby Yates would add depth and strategic value to the Dodgers’ bullpen, giving them a much better chance of closing out tight games. His 2019 season with the Padres, in which he recorded a league-leading 1.19 ERA and 41 saves, is an example of his elite performance in high-pressure situations. His sharp splitter and command on the mound make him a reliable option for late-inning roles, neutralizing both left-handed and right-handed hitters.

He would be an amazing addition to the Dodgers despite being injured several times. Yates will show great strength and flexibility; he will greatly help the team. He’s a veteran guy who thrives in the game in key moments; he’ll help stabilize the bullpen and bring in confidence. This will either position him as the closer or get him into very high-leverage relief, thus solidifying their pitching depth into a powerhouse toward postseason success.

The new villain of this MLB era: the Los Angeles Dodgers

What’s your perspective on:

Are the Dodgers buying their way to another World Series, or is it just smart strategy?

Have an interesting take?

The Los Angeles Dodgers have cemented their status as Major League Baseball’s new “villain” with a series of offseason moves that would make even the most hardened opponent shudder with envy. In particular, the Dodgers signed two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million contract, deepening an already strong rotation. There is also outfielder Teoscar Hernandez with a three-year, $66 million deal.

The Dodgers also traded second baseman Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds, receiving outfield prospect Mike Sirota in exchange. They also acquired a competitive-balance Round A draft pick. This move reflects a shift in the team’s roster construction strategy. All of these moves, coupled with their financial strategies, have brought further criticism to their competitive imbalances.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are shaping up to be an unstoppable force, combining elite talent with smart moves in their roster. While the aggressive approach has its share of critics and further cements its “villain” status, it also shows the relentless pursuit of greatness. A stacked lineup and a fortified bullpen mean that the Dodgers are primed for another dominant run at World Series glory.
