The Boston Red Sox are red hot in the off-season. After all, if rumors are true, they are ready to sign the gem of the off-season, Juan Soto. With the New York Yankees or the New York Mets in the race, the fact that they are even after this deal is surprising, given that Boston doesn’t sign such free-agent signees. The team had a three-hour-long meeting with the star, and recently, manager Alex Cora even had a smirk on his face while talking about Soto.
The team wants to get back to their winning status, and looks like Soto is a good way to go. But could the Red Sox have another name on their minds – Chris Sale, the same guy they traded away? After struggling with injuries and setbacks over the last few years, Chris silenced anyone who doubted him with a stellar 2024 season. He clinched the pitching triple crown and comeback player of the year accolade. And now, after Chris was spotted at a recent Patriots game, another speculation has started making the rounds: Is Boston interested in signing Sale?

The rumors started because Sale was spotted enjoying the Patriots game in the city of Boston, igniting a rage of emotions among the fans. With a post on X fueling the speculations, one comment urged for a reunion between the Red Sox and Chris Sale, saying, “Trade for him back!” Sale was once a promising cornerstone of the team’s pitching staff but was traded after his back-to-back poor performances.

The Braves acquired Chris Sale, and in return, sent their prospect, Vaughn Grissom, to the Boston Red Sox. Now, while Sale has settled wonderfully, the same cannot be said about Grissom – he has struggled in limited action this season. Given that Boston got the bitter end of the trade, Sale’s sudden surge might have caught their attention. Moreover, even Ken Rosenthal from Athletic said that the “Red Sox could use someone like Chris Sale right now” in a podcast earlier this year too. But, whether this remains a speculation or turns out to be true, only time will tell.
Juan Soto is not the only focus for the Boston Red Sox!

Could Chris Sale's return be the missing piece for the Red Sox's championship puzzle?
Have an interesting take?
The Boston Red Sox has made strides in the 2024 regular season, but their post-season fell off. Now, they are pushing for Soto, trying everything to improve matters. While Soto can be their focus, Alex Cora has much more to focus on, given key players like Kenley Hansen and Chris Martin are entering free agency. One intriguing target is Milwaukee Brewers’ two-time all-star Kevin Williams. Since 2020, he has boasted an ERA of 1.70, making him one of the crème de la crème of relievers in baseball.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report said that Williams can be a game-changer for the Red Sox. “Given Williams’ vastly superior K/9 rate (14.6 to Clase’s 8.7), one could easily make the case that he has been the most dominant relief pitcher over the past half-decade,” Miller claimed. Although projected to earn $8 million in 2025, the Brewers might not entertain any offers for their star as of yet.ADVERTISEMENT
