What on earth do the Blue Jays want? Well, that’s how anyone will react on hearing that the Blue Jays have made offers to both Alex Bregman and Pete Alonso. The rather infamous agent Scott Boras is struggling to get his two prized clients placed. The outrageous amount he has asked for both Bregman and Alonso is the reason why the teams are skeptical about moving with them. Now with the Blue Jays reportedly making offers to both, Boras will be more desperate than ever to place his clients together.
The Blue Jays already have a few good names like Anthony Santander and Jeff Hoffman. Vladimir Guerrero is also being offered an extension and now the addition of at least any of Bregman and Alonso will open a huge opportunity for the Blue Jays to make it to the 2025 World Series. Price will be a factor here considering both Bregman and Alonso are not signing their existing offers because of the same and the Blue Jays seem to be ready to shell out their fat paycheck getting them. Will then the other teams let go of the two?

Scott Boras is still struggling
As per the reports, the Blue Jays offered a 3-year contract to Alonso and a 6-year contract to Bregman with an undisclosed amount. Alonso already has a 3-year offer worth $70 from the Mets, while Bregman has a 6-year offer of $156 million and a 4-year offer from the Red Sox. The offers by the Blue Jays can only work if their amount is high. Scott Boras on the other hand can have a higher bargaining power with the Astros and Mets considering he got a new offer from the Blue Jays. Fans can thus expect a more desperate hardball approach from Boras.

“The Jays are in play to land either of them”, MLB insider Hector Gomez shared over X. This indicates that if not both, the Blue Jays are all armed up to land any of them, which still makes a sweet deal for Boras. Bregman is expecting north of $200 million for a 6-year deal, while Alonso is expecting approximately $100 million for a 3-year deal. Both of these amounts seemed exorbitant for the suitors, leaving Boras struggling to place his clients. Hence, the Blue Jays making new offers can work only when Boras is flexible with his prices. It would indeed be a miracle if the Blue Jays could still pull this off with Boras expectedly coming up with more outrageous deals in the future.

The Blue Jays can pull off the miracle
Amid the existing offers from the Astros and Mets, the Blue Jays can still pull off the miracle, landing both Alonso and Bregman. The Mets’ owner Steve Cohen already shared his frustration about Alonso’s negotiation indicating that they are moving away from him. On the other hand, the Astros’ GM Dana Brown also opined about how they can land Bregman only when he accepts their offer. Scott Boras thus got final offers for both his clients without much scope for amendments and paved the way for the Blue Jays to initiate their blue ocean strategy.
If the amount offered by the Jays is higher than Alonso and Bregman’s existing offers, then they are all set to pull off the miracle and there’s no turning back. Now the question will be if the Blue Jays have enough left to land these two with them after pouring a significant amount on Santander and Guerrero. The Jays have already overshot the luxury tax threshold and landing either Bregman or Alonso will get them higher penalties. Hence, things are not simple for them to pull this miracle but if done will be one-of-a-kind.
This is the moment, the Blue Jays’ fans are long waiting for and now they just hope to make it happen. If done, the Blue Jays will be the team to watch this year. Another star-studded team after the Dodgers are in the making.
