This offseason saw the Yankees go after two major pitching free agents – Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. While they couldn’t match the eventual price of Yamamoto, the Bombers did try to give a big deal to Snell. However, in the end, the Pinstripes agreed to a two-year deal with Marcus Stroman. This covered their rotational shortage, but somehow left many feeling that the Yankees could’ve done more. As it stands, that’s exactly what Brian Cashman felt as well.

Andy Martino of SNY shared that it felt like the Yankees were still on the lookout for a pitcher. GM Brian Cashman too has admitted that the Bombers weren’t “pencil-downs” just yet. So where there’s smoke, there’s fire, but where will this fire take the Yankees? Back to Blake Snell or towards Jordan Montgomery

The Bombers have already once made an offer to Blake Snell. The Cy Young winner rejected it at that time, but with his market being less than robust, they could go back to the table without much issue. On the other hand, Montgomery’s situation has gotten a little complicated ever since the Texas Rangers stepped out of his sweepstakes.

The different routes for the Pinstripes?

Players like Shane Bieber and Edward Cabrera are still available for trade. They could prove to be a great short-term addition to the Pinstripes. Apart from them, there have been recent speculations regarding Monty accepting a shorter team deal. Are the Yankees willing to give him a generous amount for 2-3 years? More importantly, is Montgomery willing to return to the Bronx after he was traded in 2022?
