If reports are to be believed, he’s biding his time like a tiger does before taking a plunge. 

Links begin developing between Cody Bellinger and the New York Yankees 

Two major stories had dominated the offseason till now – the lack of strong suitors for Bellinger and the lack of a major free agent signing from the Yankees other than Marcus Stroman. Now the two worlds are ready to collide as MLB Network‘s Mark Feinsand reported “Another exec who predicted a Snell-Giants match also pegged the Yankees as the team to sign Bellinger, who could see time at first base, center field and DH in 2024” 

This comes on the back of conflicting reports regarding the Chicago Cubs’ links with Cody Bellinger. With both Bellinger and Cubs adamant in their valuations, there has been a stalemate between the two parties. Usually, such a situation provides a ripe opportunity to competitors to usurp the favorite and the Yankees could do just that.

Despite strengthening their hitting, the Yankees would still benefit from Bellinger’s presence. A long-term deal would ensure that they have a proper cover for the First Base in case they decline Anthony Rizzo’s club option next year. But this link doesn’t mean that the Cubs are completely out of the picture. They remain favorites because of a variety of reasons.

Chicago Cubs are still in prime position for Cody Love

Despite recent stagnation in their talks, the Cubs remain far ahead of the rest in the Cody Bellinger sweepstakes. While their deep connection with Bellinger is one of the chief reasons for this, it’s their payroll that gives them an edge over others. The estimated payroll of Cubs remains $206 million, according to Roster Resource. They have a much bigger room to fit Bellinger than the Yankees and other competitors. As a result, the Pinstripes have a huge battle in hand for Bellinger.
