Juan Soto’s off-season is turning out to be quite a spectacle. And it has many other players and teams on hold because only after he decides can they move on. The New York Mets, the New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox, and even the Toronto Blue Jays are in the run for clinching the gem of the season. From shelling the highest bid to highlighting sentimental connections, every tactic has been used to get Soto interested in their teams.
Former Boston Red Sox player Big Papi, aka David Ortiz himself, rallied to pitch his team to Juan Soto; he mentioned if Soto decided to come in, he would get Ortiz as a mentor. Same way, even the Mets seem to have a spokesperson—catcher Francisco Alvarez. He made it no secret that he is in full recruitment mode for two stars—Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Juan Soto.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Juan Soto in Queens?

On Monday, Alvarez shared an Instagram story that featured him and Guerrero side by side, rocking the same jersey. It was a shot from the SauceGiving softball game in Puerto Rico. But he didn’t just share; he added a caption: “Dime, Vladdy. Te veo. Ready, ready, which translates to, “I see you, Vlad. You’re ready.” Plus, even Soto was tagged there! Such a fun post and it did get fans buzzing about the plausible lineup, but let’s be real: Instagram posts cannot decide the Met’s future; it’s ultimately going to come down to Steve Cohen.
Francisco Alvarez reposted a picture on Instagram of him and Vlad Jr., that also tagged Juan Soto, with the caption:

As far as Juan Soto goes, Cohen is ready to shell as much as needed. Plus, they have a great lineup of players, so, Soto can be swayed to come in a winning team. Not to mention that the team lead people, including the manager, are new, so stability is something that can be a selling point to Soto. But the New York Yankees have reportedly raised their offer, so it remains to see what exactly happens.
As for Guerrero, he is already deemed to be the next Juan Soto of the off-season 2025. And there is no lie. He is 25 years of age and has had a stellar personal year, even though he was with the Blue Jays. However, getting him can be tough, given the Jays are going to give it their all to give a contract extension. But if Guerrero ends up in the Queens, they might have to say goodbye to Pete Alonso, given that having both on the roster might not make sense. Also, the price tag of Guerrero Jr.—well, that’s increasing!

Can Guerrero Jr. be the next big Mets catch?
If the Mets miss out on Juan Soto, they might aim for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. the next season. But they are going to face tough competition from the Toronto Blue Jays; Guerrero Jr. might also be their Plan B in case the Soto deal doesn’t pan out. Jim Bowden mentioned on the Sportsnet podcast, “He’ll be the Juan Soto of next offseason. He’s going to get [to free agency].” According to Bowden, Guerrero Jr. wouldn’t possibly take an extension even if the Blue Jays offered him $350 million, and instead, would go for free agency. If that’s the case, the Mets would get the chance!
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s contract would be around $259 million over ten years, but Bowden mentioned that given he had a stellar year, the prices could rise to around $400 million. And it makes sense; he hit .323 average, 30 homers, and 103 RBIs—if Guerrero Jr. keeps up the pace, Bowden’s numbers might hit the mark next season. Plus, he is just 25 years old, which makes him a top prospect for a long-term stellar deal.
