Is Hal Steinbrenner's charm enough to keep Juan Soto in pinstripes for the next 15 years?

To say Juan Soto is owning this off-season wouldn’t be an overstatement. From rumors to daily updates, it’s all surrounding Soto, and why not? The 26-year-old proved himself wearing pinstripes, taking the team that didn’t make it to the World Series since 2009 to the WS this season. Even though they didn’t get the ring, Soto’s efforts are still going to get results, given he is up for a huge contract of $600 million or even more.

Being a Scott Boras client, the decision on where he goes might be a little delayed. However, now that teams like the Toronto Blue Jays, LA Dodgers, New York Yankees, and Boston Red Sox are all done with their meetings, a decision seems to be on the horizon. While Juan Soto didn’t give any hints, the internet sleuths seem to have noticed some unusual activities on the Dominican’s Instagram account. And it paints the picture that he might just remain in pinstripes!

While many teams are running in the battle to get Soto, the New York Mets and the New York Yankees are clear frontrunners. Many suspected only the Mets to come out victorious in this battle, given Steve Cohen is ready to shell out more than anyone else. However, we can’t vote the Yankees out just yet. And Soto’s recent Instagram follows and unfollows reveal that he can be in pinstripes rather than orange and blue.

A Twitter user by the handle @LibrarianJoe_ posted screenshots of Juan Soto’s Instagram activities. It showed that Soto re-followed the New York Yankees and is also following the All-Rise Foundation and Anthony Volpe. However, what’s alarming is that he has unfollowed the New York Mets. However, it’s important to note that Alex Cohen is still following Soto.

Have an interesting take?

While this is no small sign, the off-season in plenty of time is just about the mind games. Given that Scott Boras is Soto’s agent, who knows this isn’t one of his many tactics? However, it’s crucial to note that Hal Steinbrenner has made a great impression on Juan Soto, so, his remaining in the Yankees could still be happening!

Hal Steinbrenner makes a strong impression on Soto

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that the New York Yankees are positioning themselves as serious contenders to re-sign Juan Soto. According to him, Hal Steinbrenner made a great pitch to Juan Soto during the meeting they had in California. Further, Heyman said, “Soto previously formed very close relationships at previous stops with owners of the Nationals (Ted Lerner) and Padres (Peter Seidler), and Soto’s friend said he was hoping for the same with Steinbrenner.” And well, the Yankee owner sure did end up impressing Soto.

Hal Steinbrenner attended the meeting personally, and not just that, he even clarified why he wasn’t hands-on with Soto in his first year at the Yankees. He reasoned it by saying that he didn’t want to disturb Soto’s routine. It seems like the effort just struck the right chord in Soto because he values a strong relationship with the ownership. Plus, Hal also talked about the team’s traditions, revenue, and brand value. At the end of it, Heyman mentioned, “Word is, he felt better about Steinbrenner and the Yankees after their meeting.”

Who knows, maybe Steinbrenner made such an impression that Soto is ready to come play at the Bronx again? Do you think the New York Yankees can lock in the megastar for the next 15 years? Let us know in the comments.
