Heading into a new season, the MLB trade market has some surprise moves this time around. The Los Angeles Dodgers seem to be making some under-the-radar trades that have not been given importance. Additionally, the Dodgers made a move on Roki Sasaki, signing the Japanese sensation. Sasaki had a marvelous 2024 season in the Nippon Baseball League, posting a 2.35 ERA.

While Sasaki’s joining to the Dodgers will have filled the 40-man squad, that is not the case here—Sasaki has signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers, which allows him to stay close to the franchise while the Dodgers will still have an open spot to fill in their squad. Now, the Dodgers can be making a big-money signing that will strengthen their squad and might lead them to another World Series championship.

As reported on the Petros and Money podcast, they might be looking to get a major league reliever. After all, this department for the Dodgers has not been able to function properly, facing a lot of injuries. Many of their players, like Brusdar Graterol and Evan Phillips, have been sidelined for long periods due to injuries. So, this problem can be solved with a simple addition to the squad in the form of this star reliever.

There are some names that might stand out for the Dodgers to sign. But there is one name that has popped up and is shining bright in the face of the Dodgers. He will fill the position of a much-needed relief pitcher and might solve a lot of problems for the Dodgers. His name is Tanner Scott, and he has been an absolute force in the MLB. After making his debut in 2017, he has been on a run of stellar performances. In the 2024 MLB season, Scott had a stellar ERA of 1.75 across the 72 innings.

But signing Tanner Scott isn’t without problems. Given the value is reported at $80 million, a signing that works through strategic savvy becomes particularly necessary, as Scott could garner interested attention from others, especially injury-plagued bullpens seeking the strength that comes in bringing someone such as him in to provide necessary closing duties. But with the Dodgers suffering from injuries in the bullpen, they might try and go all out for the star pitcher.

Dodgers fans, on social media, have started speculating how this addition by Tanner Scott would impact the team’s chances. With the franchise eyeing a return to the World Series, this can be the big-stakes move that sets up the tone of the season. Historically, the Dodgers have made big moves to bolster their bullpen, such as acquiring Joe Kelly and Blake Treinen, which were crucial during their World Series-winning seasons.
