Cody Bellinger, a name that is on every Chicago Cubs fan’s mouth at the moment. The 28-year-old star outfielder had a resurgent year in 2023 with his batting and versatile fielding. But in free agency, Bellinger is yet to sign with a team, as $200 million demands prove difficult to accommodate.

Bellinger was a top player for the Cubs this past season, but negotiations with the North Side team have been difficult. The Chicago-based team is being careful with its investment and making calculated off-season moves. This has led to a standoff between the team and Bellinger. Now as Spring Training nears, is a compromise in sight?

It has been a slow off-season involving Cody Bellinger, with each update coming at a snail’s pace. But the versatile star seems to be keen on a Chicago Cubs reunion with the price tag being the only obstacle. Now, as Spring Training nears, the question stands, will Bellinger’s price tag drop? This is highly unlikely with Scott Boras as his agent, with the super agent notorious for negotiating some of MLB’s biggest contracts. Furthermore, Boras is adept at playing the waiting game.

This makes it more likely that he and Bellinger will wait out the Cubs and secure the best possible deal. It remains to be seen how much this pact will be for and whether Bellinger will get $200 million or more. But it is highly unlikely that Boras will be the first side to compromise.

For a majority of the off-season, Cody Bellinger has been seen as a strong contender to return to the Cubs. The 2023 Silver Slugger enjoyed his time on the North Side and earned the adoration of the fans. Now, the two sides will have to agree on a contract as Spring Training nears.
