“You could argue that Bellinger to the Blue Jays still makes some sense. I tend to think that Bellinger back Chicago makes most sense,” said Morosi. He then went on to explain how, with most players going to the teams they were first linked with, it makes him believe that Bellinger’s free agency can end the same way.
Recently, reports of the Cubs becoming favorites for Bellinger have been emerging rather rapidly. Most experts believe that Bellinger’s apparent love for Chi-Town and the coaching staff of the Cubs could tilt him toward the North Side. At the same time, the Cubs seem to have frozen their offseason for this one deal. So could it be just a matter of time before both parties find a middle ground?

It would certainly take a lot of effort to find that middle ground, as the Cubs are highly uncomfortable with paying the expected $300 million to Bellinger.
The $300 million question
The Toronto Blue Jays have recently shifted their focus on other players. This could be a hint that they’re preparing for a timeline where they don’t get Bellinger. This paves the way for the Cubs but at the same time, makes Bellinger’s chances of getting $300 million a little slimmer.

If there are fewer teams after him, there won’t be a bidding war. In that case, the Cubs’ strategy of waiting for Bellinger’s price to drop may prove to be a genius move. As a result, at least for now, it looks like $300 million might be out of reach for Cody Love. But on the other hand, you never know about Scott Boras, he can do anything.
