In an attempt to add star players, the San Francisco Giants have given it their all in recent years. Now, they seem to have gotten their man in Korean star Jung Hoo Lee. But with pitching being the top priority now, is Blake Snell a top target in their search?
Snell has been touted as a top free agent after a stellar NL Cy Young-winning 2023 season. But with Scott Boras helming his free agency, progress has been slow. Now with the Giants targeting pitching, are the two sides on a collision course this off-season?

Blake Snell seems to fit what the San Francisco Giants are looking for. This is according to Giants Insider Alex Pavlovic. During the recently concluded Shota Imanaga talks, the Giants were heavily linked with the Japanese ace. But Pavlovic refuted these claims, saying that they are looking at better options.
I’ve seen a lot of confusion about Giants/Imanaga … they were never a frontrunner here, people just went wild with rumors. They view him as more of a back-end starter and prefer other guys (they still plan to add to rotation) https://t.co/jkexiVdL1D

In a Tweet, the NBCS Bay Area reporter said, “I’ve seen a lot of confusion about Giants/Imanaga … they were never a frontrunner here, people just went wild with rumors. They view him as more of a back-end starter and prefer other guys (they still plan to add to rotation)”. But as pointed out in his last sentence, a pitcher is necessary this off-season.
It remains to be seen whether the Giants will move forward with a Blake Snell deal, as the New York Yankees have also shown interest. But negotiations are likely to take time, with Snell’s agent Scott Boras patiently awaiting the best possible deal. Furthermore, competition for the lefty ace’s signature is only going to grow moving forward.

Given the concerns surrounding Blake Snell, especially his durability, a short-term deal may be a strong possibility. Teams like the LA Angels, Giants and Seattle Mariners may want this flexibility going into a deal. Club options or mutual options may also be a method used to ensure flexibility. But Snell is sure to get his money’s worth after a top season and winning his 2nd Cy Young Award. It remains to be seen where the lefty ace will sign, but many factors are at play.
