There’s something in the air of Baltimore – it smells like glory. The Baltimore Orioles aren’t shy of that smell, after all, their history is filled with success. However, the end of the 2010s saw the team go tumbling down the peck, but that fall was intentional. It allowed them to rebuild and what a rebuild they’ve had. The O’s have become the kings of the AL East and want to continue that reign. Perhaps a sprinkle of Blake Snell could do the trick for them this season? Or what if the Orioles go after Jordan Montgomery?

That would surely send a strong message across the AL East. After all, their closest rivals, the New York Yankees, have started an arms race but the O’s still have a big weapon they can add to their arsenal. The best part? After the sale, the team finally has the means to do that. So with so many advantages – can a deal actually be stuck?

ESPN’s Buster Olney recently floated the idea of the Birds going for Snell or Monty. The reasons he gave were that the O’s require a starting pitcher and these two fill that need to a tee. The fact that the Orioles have saved up a lot of cash in the past few years is just a cherry on top. As a result, the O’s going for Snell or Monty could prove to be a disruptive act in the AL East.

Also, the Oreos have found themselves in a championship race this year. Last season’s 101-win season abruptly ended in the Division Series. While they’ve added Corbin Burnes to the roster, another quality pitcher could turn them into World Series favorites. That’s the kind of move that would immediately turn the new ownership into fan favorites.

However, even if the links become strong – neither Snell nor Montgomery will come in cheap. Especially after Scott Boras revealed an important detail in his recent presser.

Scott Boras recently shared that the injury bug that has bitten the league has positively impacted his clients’ free agencies. “Four new teams” have inquired about Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery since the start of spring training. While one could argue that this could be another one of Boras’ tactics, it makes sense. At this stage of the offseason, even a minor injury can send the team into panic mode.

So it won’t be surprising if the two stars have actually seen an increase in interest. However, one has to wonder that even after immense competition, the Baltimore Orioles might be in an advantageous position. They can offer a winning atmosphere with tons of prospects (which would make losing a draft pick quite easy to digest). Could that prove to be the trump card for the Birds towards their flight to glory?
