The third-best prospect in the MLB just started the 2025 regular season on an expected note. The 22-year-old Kristian Campbell quickly established himself as a member of the Red Sox. How? He hit his first home run against the Rangers on Saturday night after earning a spot on the roster during spring training. While this is already in the news, the latest update is that the Red Sox are now in deep talks with Campbell regarding his contract. While it is a justified strategy for the Red Sox to lock in a top prospect for the long run, what is going on with their star pitcher, Garrett Crochet’s, contract?
Well, only in the last summer did Campbell soar up prospect lists after hitting .330/.439/.558 with 32 doubles and 20 home runs at three minor league levels. In the season’s first three games, he went 3 for 7 with a walk. Moreover, despite being a natural second baseman, he played in left field on Saturday. Yes, he is the reason behind the Red Sox’s plan to go with Alex Bregman at third and Rafael Devers as a DH. Hence, a worthy talent in the making for the Red Sox.
The only positive for the Red Sox from the game? While the Red Sox faced a 4-3 loss to the Rangers, Campbell went for a 431-foot-long homer.

“On the night he hit his first major league home run, Kristian Campbell and the Red Sox are in deep talks on a contract extension.”
Currently, Campbell has a 1-year contract worth $760,000 with the Red Sox. While it is still not confirmed the potential years and amount between the parties, hopefully, it will take the route of Ronald Acuna Jr. Acuna was picked up by the Braves in his first year for an 11-year for $100 million. Something on the same line is expected. However, are the talks even going on or it’s just a rumor?
One source said it's close. Nothing from the team — and Campbell huddled with officials before addressing reporters tonight. But he acknowledged things are heating up.

“They’re talking back and forth. I know that for a fact. I’m not sure how close or not close it is but we’ve had some communications on that for sure,” Campbell acknowledged.
Now, what is happening between Crochet and the Red Sox? “I wasn’t quite sure. It was fairly down to the wire,” Crochet said. He is also in a 1-year contract of $3.8 million with the team. However, his 2024 figures if continued this year can make a long-term deal for him. In 2024, crochet had a strong season. Over 146 innings pitched, he recorded 209 strikeouts. It now appears that both parties made great strides and that future discussions will continue. Nonetheless, the Red Sox have a few good names this season to make it big.
What’s your perspective on:
Is the Red Sox's focus on Campbell's contract a smart move, or should Crochet be the priority?

The Red Sox’s contention to make it big in 2025
A lot of reasons for the Red Sox to be hopeful going into the 2025 season. They have made a few significant off-season moves after finishing 2024 with an 81-81 record. Moreover with the big deal for Garrett Crochet and the signing of Walker Buehler, the Red Sox’ pitching is also looking impressive. However, above all, the signing of Alex Bregman to a three-year, $120 million contract, turned the tide towards them. Bregman is coming up with 92 runs, 25 home runs, and 89 RBI over the last three seasons. Last but not least, Devers is there for some hitting as a DH. That looks like a complete setup to go big this year. However, it wasn’t reflected in Saturday’s 4-3 loss against the Rangers.
The Red Sox’s shortstop, Trevor Story’s health is still a serious concern. Since joining the team in 2022, Story has had difficulty staying on the field (163 games played since then), and his output has been patchy. The next option? David Hamilton. He is expected to take over if Story suffers any more injuries. While Hamilton is a good choice because of his defense, his offense isn’t completely developed yet. Hence, the team has its limitations. It’s just that landing Crochet has improved the pitching division, while prospects like Campbell and Marcelo Mayer can make a difference this year. Campbell already announced his arrival.
It is too early to conclude on the Red Sox by just one game. The following few games will prove if the lineup led by Bregman is clicking or not.
