Roki Sasaki, from the international pool, isn’t alone in making all that noise. There is another name who could soon make his way to American soil for MLB: Hyenseong Kim. He was posted to MLB teams and will be available to sign as a free agent from Thursday to Jan 3. Given Kim’s dominance, it’s not going to be a surprise to see several teams vying for his attention.

Kim turns 26 in January and has played eight seasons in South Korea. He is an elite defender there and the only player in KBO history to win a Gold Glove. And well, he won in both shortstop and second base. In MLB, many teams would require his presence, but one team that Jon Morosi mentions is the San Francisco Giants, who have plenty of scope in their lineup that needs to be addressed.

While the team is not likely to go for big-ticket players like Juan Soto, a young name like Hyeseong Kim would be a no-brainer. Jon Morosi explained why: “I think with the new GM, Buster Posey, leading the way, they have some needs for this off-season, and I believe Kim is a potential fit for the Giants.” And it does make sense, given the Giants aren’t strangers to signing free agents from the international pool.

The San Francisco Giants signed another South Korean outfielder named Jung-hoo Lee for $113 million for six long years. Lee has a history of playing alongside the potential new teammate—they lost the 2022 Korean series together. However, their past relationship could play a role in how the free agency rolls in. If the Dodgers can be a Japan-favorite team, the Giants are surely the Korean favorite!

Two more potential landing spots for Hyeseong Kim

Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners are hugely linked to Kim because they are looking to address their infield needs. His defense skills and ability to get on base make him a perfect fit for the Mariners’ lineup. Jim Morosi confirmed this: “The Mariners are among the teams interested in Kim, who will be posted by the Kiwoom Heroes.” Kim has a well-rounded skill set and could provide the team’s stability. So, it won’t be farfetched to say he could become a cornerstone for the team.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Hyeseong Kim be the missing piece for the Giants, or should they aim higher?

The Blue Jays are hot and heavy with Juan Soto and also have an intriguing possibility for Hyeseong Kim. After their mishap of not having a Plan B after the Shohei Ohtani mishap and their postseason miss, they want to upgrade more, especially in the middle infield. Kim’s on-base production can bring that balance to their roster; he might be a core player who can help the Blue Jays regain their playoff contention.

If you were to choose where you think Hyeseong Kim will land, where among the three would be your pick? Let us know in the comments.
