Not everything is going right with the St. Louis Cardinals’ Nolan Arenado! Amid the turbulent offseason, the Boston Red Sox’s different motives have led to a pending contract for Arenado. As pointed out by MLB insider Matt Couture, the Cardinals and Red Sox have been in talks about the deal for Nolan Arenado; however, it stands still due to the speculations surrounding Alex Bregman, who hasn’t found any takers yet. So, leaving Arenado for Bregman—think that makes sense?

Cardinals’ third baseman Nolan Arenado’s 2024 performance marked his average of .272, with 16 home runs, 71 RBIs, and.719 OPS. While the Red Sox are trying to get him on board, their front office has also shown their interest in getting back Bregman, citing their doors are open for him, as the Red Sox plans to balance a left-heavy lineup with a right-handed batter.

Nolan Arenado’s trade hangs in a thread amidst the Bregman trade

The Boston Red Sox have remained in contact with the St. Louis Cardinals for a long time, having a full agreement with them to acquire Nolan Arenado. But, given that the Red Sox are also looking to get Alex Bregman, who could provide a balance to the lineup that mainly boasts of left-handers, the trade remains on hold. Now, on February 11, a top MLB insider, Matt Couture, revealed, “Per sources, the Red Sox and Cardinals have the structure in place on a deal for Nolan Arenado. The current hold is Alex Bregman. If the Red Sox do not land him, expect them to quickly turn to trading for Arenado.

Couture believes that if the Boston Red Sox does not get Alex Bregman, Nolan Arenado is a sure-shot bet. Meanwhile, the Cardinals’ reunion with Arenado is pending as well, given that the deal has been finalized and he also wants to go to the Red Sox. But that’s not the only reason behind the pending deal! The Red Sox need a right-hander, and as for Alex Bregman, he has led the American League third baseman in 142 games, with a.972 fielding percentage,.260 batting average, 75 RBIs,.768 OPS, and 26 home runs, which makes him a perfect fit for the Red Sox. Meanwhile, another team is urged to consider Alex Bregman—the New York Yankees.

The Yankees emerge as a major contender for Alex Bregman

While Alex Bregman remains unsigned, not finding his perfect landing spot yet, the New York Yankees have been linked with him again. The Yankees are desperately in need of a third baseman, and Bregman seems to be a perfect fit for that position, isn’t he? Well, Alex Bregman had a great 2024 season, with 581 AB, a.260 average, and 75 RBIs, and he could provide a massive boost to their lineup and increase their chances of making it to the playoffs. However, there’s a major problem that indicates very little chance of acquiring Bregman. What is it?

Well, the New York Yankees seem unwilling to spend huge on Alex Bregman, given the price tag he possesses. Although the Yankees have tried hard to cut down their payroll significantly, getting Bregman may not fulfill their actual purpose unless the fans stop talking too much about bringing Bregman to the Yankees. And that is when Bregman may reduce his price tag, making it easy for him to find the perfect landing destination too.
