It’s the New York Mets GM David Stearns in the news again, but this time not for good reasons! His different priorities have not only hurt the contract desire of Pete Alonso but also led to a clash in agreements with the agent, Scott Boras. But why is that so?

Well, for the Mets, Alonso is currently in the age-30 season, and there is uncertainty over his performance in the next couple of years. After the Mets rejected a long-term offer, Scott made a short-term contract offer; however, Stearns does not appear to be interested in signing Alonso. The fact that Alonso’s demands are being stalled for reasons other than age suggests that Stearns’ intentions are not good. The Mets, however, are eyeing a major star. Say, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.?

The ego clash between David Stearns and Scott Boras has been recently all over the news. Given that Mets GM David Stearns declined the long-term contract desire made by Pete Alonso’s agent, citing reasons for trying to get younger players in the lineup, chances of Alonso’s reunion look bleak. But there’s something more surprising! Following the disagreement with the previous offer, Boras put forward another short-term contract of three years; however, Stearns doesn’t seem interested in signing him back. An MLB insider, Chris McMonigle, on January 15, said, “I wonder where Steve Cohen is. My thought is that David Stearns would rather have him not sign here. I honestly believe that David Stearns would rather Pete Alonso get another deal and tell him to go take it.” He stated that Stearns did not want to negotiate against himself.

Chris went on to add that David is in a power situation, holding higher authority and control, which makes him not negotiate on the offer made by Boras. The Mets are looking to acquire younger players on board, while Pete is already 30, which makes him unsuitable. However, Steve Cohen’s intervention can be helpful in this matter, given that Alonso still has a lot to offer in terms of his batting experience. He is the only player who can hit 40 home runs easily and can help the Mets win the World Series too. But, as of now, it’s uncertain as the Mets are looking for the Blue Jays superstar.

New York Mets in pursuit of the Toronto Blue Jays’ superstar

With every passing day as the Pete Alonso and New York Mets stalemate grow, rumors are in the air about the Blue Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero Jr. link with the Queens. The Mets have a gap in their first base, and signing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. makes sense. Vladimir is five years younger than Alonso, and with an impressive record of .293/.370/.517 (.887 OPS), along with 101 RBIs and 34 home runs in the 2021 offseason, he will be a great bet. But that’s not all!

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been quite consistent, as he appeared in 636 out of 648 games over the last four seasons, which makes him a great young talent that the Mets can trust. He is currently in the final year of his contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, who aren’t looking for an extension of his contract. However, given that he will be going to the free agency market next year, the Blue Jays may have to increase his money; otherwise, he can be an easy trade for the Mets.

There hasn’t been any official confirmation yet of the Mets leaving out Alonso or getting Vladimir. However, as per reports, the Mets have checked Vladimir’s potential availability, and thus, the first baseman’s signing remains in the dream of fantasy baseball.
