It’s looking more and more like money will be the ultimate factor in Juan Soto’s decision. It’s a factor that’s putting the Mets in the driver’s seat. With Steve Cohen’s endless pockets, they’ve got the financial power. Soto clearly loves New York, but he’s kept the Yankees at arm’s length this year, hinting that he’s open to hearing from other teams.  

If the Yankees miss out on him, it would hurt, but it’s far from the end of the world. The front office still has a ton of flexibility. With $600 million-plus to spend elsewhere, they could make some serious players in a free-agent market. The market is loaded with All-Star talent. One of those talents could be Anthony Santander. He is definitely trying to find a new home, and that home could be New York. 

Anthony Santander’s future with the Baltimore Orioles looks uncertain 

With a loaded outfield pipeline in the Orioles’ farm system, there’s no urgent need to keep Santander. According to Fansided.com, Santander will be looking to convert his breakout performance into a big payday. With several teams in need of a power-hitting outfielder, he’s bound to attract interest elsewhere. The Orioles’ focus on pitching might mean it’s time for Santander to find a new home. This is a good opportunity for the New York Yankees. It will not only boost their lineup but also weaken a division rival all in one move.  

Anthony Santander was absolutely on fire for the Orioles in 2024. While there’s no direct one-for-one replacement for Juan Soto in free agency, Santander’s power would help fill a significant portion of that gap in the middle of the Yankees’ lineup. Plus, with Soto’s spot in right field open, Santander’s big bat could slot in nicely and make an immediate impact. What makes Santander so intriguing is his offensive profile. He’s an ambitious hitter who isn’t afraid to swing for the fences. While that can lead to strikeouts, he made noticeable strides in reducing them in 2024. It’s a win-win for the Yankees. Not just the Yanks, more teams have eyes on Anthony. 

Despite the Red Sox’s reported interest in Juan Soto, it looks like their focus might be shifting 

MLB insider Jim Bowden recently suggested that while Soto remains on their radar, the Red Sox are turning their attention to other priorities. In a mailbag column for The Athletic, Bowden highlighted that adding a bat is a major goal for Boston. it’s more likely they’ll target players like Teoscar Hernández or Anthony Santander instead of going all in on Soto. 

Anthony Santander is a name the Boston Red Sox could target this offseason. The 30-year-old switch-hitter has spent his entire career with the Baltimore Orioles. His power bat has made him a consistent offensive threat. Last season, Santander had a career year, blasting 44 home runs and further cementing his status as a reliable slugger.  While his career batting average is .246, Santander’s ability to hit for power makes him an intriguing fit for Boston’s right-handed heavy lineup.  

His bat could provide a much-needed boost, especially in Fenway Park, where his power could play well with the short right-field fence. This offseason, the Boston Red Sox are putting a major focus on strengthening their pitching rotation, and they’ve set their sights on some of the most intriguing arms in the game. According to MLB insider Jim Bowden, the Red Sox are targeting three elite pitchers to bolster their rotation: Corbin Burnes, Max Fried, and Roki Sasaki.
