Dave Roberts, the manager who led the Los Angeles Dodgers to the World Series title, somehow isn’t even a finalist for the National League Manager of the Year award! Given that Roberts did a remarkable job as a manager this year, something that fans and the team have already talked about, this update is out of the blue. Dave did help keep the team together, remember how the season initially started for the Dodgers?
They had multiple players who were out because of injuries. The only thing holding the team’s spirit was not just their star player, Shohei Ohtani, but Dave Roberts. In 2024, we might not have seen the Aaron Judge comeback, but in the genuine sense—the Dodgers had the most epic comeback. And look how far they got – winning the World Series title. But despite that magic, Roberts was left out of the honor!

Dave Roberts did not get the honor of being in the top three, but San Diego Padres’ Mike Shildt, New York Mets’ Carlos Mendoza, and Milwaukee Brewers’ Pat Muphy made it to the list. The National League Manager of the Year award is a regular-season honor, and the post-season performance doesn’t count. However, it’s tough to ignore that Dave Roberts took down two of the above-honored manager teams en route to the finals—the Padres and Mets.
Dave Roberts was snubbed as a finalist for NL Manager of the Year. Carlos Mendoza, Pat Murphy and Mike Shildt are finalists.
This was arguably Roberts’ best job as a manager, navigating through injuries and finishing with the best record in MLB.

Does Roberts has only won this award once, and that was in his debut season in 2016. Since then, he finished in the top six every year and finished second twice. However, he has always been widely appreciated by his team – Mookie Betts called Roberts the ‘real reason’ behind the Dodgers winning the World Series this year. And even the season’s MVP, Freddie Freeman, raved about the Dodgers’ manager.
Remarking on the game-changing mound visit that Roberts took in Game 5, Freeman said, “That was one of the best games I’ve ever seen managed.” While Roberts might not have won the manager award, he just got some good news.

The Dodgers are set to extend Dave Roberts’ contract
Before the 2024 season, the off-season question restarted—will the Dodgers part ways with Dave Roberts? Though Roberts remains one of the winningest managers, with more playoff appearances than any of the ones before him—he gets critiqued a lot. Many of the fans point to LA’s postseason struggles, mostly after the 2020 World Series win. And after the LA lost to the Padres this year, the call for his departure grew louder, but Roberts proved himself yet again.
While Roberts might not be adding a Manager of the Year award to his collection, he has a second World Series title. Plus, given his record, it’s not tough to imagine that he will make his way to the Hall of Fame. Under Roberts, the LA Dodgers have got 9 posts season appearances, 8 NL West titles, 4 World Series appearances, and 2 World Series wins.
