The Phillies are on the lookout for another bat. While Juan Soto remains this offseason’s ‘great catch’, if Philadelphia falls short in that pursuit, Alex Bregman could be a perfect fallback option. The two-time All-Star has plenty of postseason experience. He has two World Series rings from his time with the Houston Astros. Plus, as a Scott Boras client, there won’t be any issues getting negotiations started.

Bregman would provide the Phillies with a proven hitter who can contribute both during the regular season and in high-pressure playoff moments. The big problem, of course, is that Alex Bregman is a third baseman. The Phillies already have an All-Star in Alec Bohm, who just had the best season of his career at third. So, it’s fair to assume that if Bregman were to come to Philadelphia, it would likely signal the end of Bohm’s time at third and possibly lead to a trade.

Alex Bohm trade could give the Phillies an advantage

According to Fansided.com, GM Dave Dombrowski is also expected to explore the trade market. The most talked-about trade candidate for the Phillies is Alec Bohm. The 28-year-old is still in the prime of his career and under team control through 2026. Given his solid bat and steady defense at third, it shouldn’t be too hard for the Phillies to find interested suitors. Especially if they decide to move him to make room for a potential big-name addition like Alex Bregman. Bohm’s value is high, and the Phillies could capitalize on that in a trade if they feel the right deal comes along.

With Alec Bohm potentially on the move, Philadelphia suddenly has an open spot at third base—a perfect opportunity to pursue someone like Alex Bregman. However, Bregman has made it clear he’s open to switching to second base, which could change things. Bryson Stott, who’s coming off a less-than-impressive .671 OPS season, might be the one who finds himself shifting to a bench role or another position. Bregman’s flexibility could allow the Phillies to improve their infield without disrupting Bohm’s development. However, more teams are eyeing Bregman, one of them being the Blue Jays.

The Toronto Blue Jays also want Alex Bregman

The Toronto Blue Jays have been relatively quiet so far this offseason. According to reports, they are reportedly targeting several high-profile free agents. They are looking for players who could significantly reshape their roster and strengthen their position in the AL East. Among the most intriguing names on their radar are Max Fried, the ace left-hander from the Atlanta Braves, and Alex Bregman, the star third baseman from the Houston Astros.

Both players could fill critical needs for the Blue Jays. Fried would add a top-tier arm to their rotation, while Bregman would provide a powerful bat and solid defense at third base. Alex Bregman is another big name the Blue Jays are reportedly eyeing. He’d be a perfect fit to fill the hole at third base and add a clutch bat to their lineup. Someone who’s proven himself in the postseason, Bregman is a sought-after talent.

Naturally, Toronto will have some competition. Bregman could be exactly what the Blue Jays need to give their lineup more consistency and push them into serious title contention. If they manage to land him, it would be a huge boost for their chances in 2025. These potential signings fit right into Toronto’s broader offseason strategy, which revolves around addressing key weaknesses across their roster.
