Derek Jeter played through two decades in baseball. A lot can happen in the given time frame. Jeter got to see the sport go through numerous changes, including some infamous events that tarnished many legacies. One such low point was the ‘steroid scandal’, which threw many of baseball’s legendary achievers and their respective milestones into disrepute.

As much as Jeter focused on winning, he also emphasized maintaining a genuine sporting spirit. He began and concluded his MLB career, playing as the shortstop for the New York Yankees. The 14-time All-Star Jeter’s game-changing heroics made him a five-time World Series champion. But on top of everything, he kept a clean image and strayed away from controversies.

Derek Jeter gets characterized by his gentle demeanor in public. But he never held back whenever he felt like witnessing injustice. He thought the same regarding the mistreatment of baseball players after the steroid scandals broke through. In particular, Jeter couldn’t tolerate seeing almost every player being doubted over their skills and achievements.

Speaking in an interview, Jeter said, “It just sheds a terrible light on the sport. Now everything in baseball is steroid-related. Now everything is speculation. You hear people saying, ‘Well, that guy must be doing it, too, and that guy’.”

Jeter added saying, “That’s unfair. I’m not talking about any particular player, but people are having to defend themselves against speculation. I think that’s only going to become worse.”
People around Jeter that went under the radar
Among many other baseball greats, some of Jeter’s former teammates got associated with P.E.D intake. Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez and Roger Clemens were two such notable names. Ultimately, the steroid usage prevented them from Hall Of Fame honors despite their top-grade contributions to the sport. However, Jeter moved in the proper direction courtesy of his father, who is a drug and alcohol abuse counselor.
