It looks like the New York Mets are on a roll this offseason! The Mets are going big right before spring training, and there’s no doubt that they are doing everything to make it count this season. As pointed out by the MLB insider, Mike Petriello, the Mets have added nine projected wins over the winner last season, and they seem to be following a similar path to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers. Think that makes sense?
Well, the Mets have turned a lot of things their way, as after months of negotiations, the Pete Alonso saga came to an end as they signed him back. The Mets also signed Juan Soto for a fifteen-year, $765 million contract, along with Sean Manaea, Clay Holmes, Frankie Montas, and AJ Minter, to name a few. So based on their current roster, they appear to be headed in the right direction and will likely follow in the footsteps of the previous two World Series winners.

It has been a great offseason for the New York Mets, all thanks to David Stearns and Steve Cohen, who made it possible to a large extent. The offseason has been pretty much complete for the Mets, and both the fans and the club seem to be happy with it.
Now, on February 10, a top MLB insider, Mike Petriello, said during a podcast on MLB Network, “Not a Mets fan; I don’t care about them, but it’s an interesting way to look at how much they added to. And you can see this here; the Mets have added about nine projected wins over the winner. Since the free agents went away, and if you look back at the last two years, who did this? The last year—the Dodgers and Yankees winning the offseason—what happened the year before? The rangers had the most value, and what happened? There’s some meaning to this.”

Petriello seemed quite surprised that the Dodgers were not in the first place, while the Mets made it to the top. He mentioned how the Dodgers made a big call by signing the Japanese star, Roki Sasaki, for just $6.5 million and getting all the facts correct about the players regarding the wins that would be worth the replacement for that place in a similar position.
While the Rangers and Dodgers were right at the top and added the most projected WAR, the Mets have acquired three projected 2025 wins since the start of the offseason. They have added the most—9 WAR—edging past the Dodgers, who had +7.5 WAR. Given the addition of the most projected value, the Mets seem to follow the similar path that the Dodgers and Rangers followed and maybe do something more as well.

The Mets have made some great strategic moves this offseason
While the New York Mets are on a roll after securing the top spot in the most projected WAR list, few acquisitions have certainly garnered the attention of fans massively. In a turn of events after the constant rejection of offers by Pete Alonso, the Mets have finally signed the free agent back, offering him one of the best one-year contracts for a first baseman right now. Another massive deal is the signing of Juan Soto for a hefty 15-year, $765 million contract, and fans are too excited to experience the Soto shuffle in the Queens. But that’s not all!
The New York Mets have also retained Sean Manaea for a three-year, $75 million contract, who had a great 2024 season as he went 12-6 with a 3.47 ERA. His change in the arm slot could further help him to replicate the same magic and numbers, or maybe even perform better this season. Another notable addition is AJ Minter, who is familiar with the NL East and has pitched for eight years in the MLB. Furthermore, he came off with a 2.62 ERA in 2024, which could make him a great addition to the lineup; however, he had hip surgery in August, which might make his presence unlikely in the spring training.
