The Los Angeles Dodgers, have become the face of MLB in the recent past, and for good reason. They won the 2020 World Series and the 2024 World Series. This has given them enough to propel into the offseason market and sweep it. They made big signings and bolstered their squad to make it a super squad. However, according to Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers might still have a weakness.

Journalist Ken Rosenthal, a household name in MLB circles, has uncovered what is the Dodgers’ biggest vulnerability. During his time on the YouTube Channel Foul Territory, he said, “You know what, I do think the Dodgers might have a weakness. Their weakness might be their defense and that’s why they have been trying to acquire all these swing-and-miss guys this offseason. We’re talking, of course, Roki Sasaki, Blake Snell, Tanner Scott perhaps Kirby Yates. Now, I don’t know that that’s the motivation for the Dodgers to acquire swing-and-miss guys. They always want swing-and-miss guys but their defense could be if not a weakness certainly not their strength.”

There is one simple meaning to this. This means that Ken Rosenthal thinks that the Dodgers are trying to build up their pitching department to cover up the fact that the Dodgers’ defense looks weak. But he also says that this might not be the case as they have always gone for players like this and are just following that. But he surely says that the defense of the Dodgers might not be their weakness, but it is surely not their strength.

Rosenthal also says, “Mookie Betts at shortstop will be a huge question. Now, he’s had an entire offseason, he’ll have entire spring training to get himself ready for the position as opposed to last season, when he moved there in the middle of spring. So, we’ll see how Mookie does and if he turns out a quality shortstop, a quality defender at shortstop.”

Mookie Betts is one of the stars in that team. He has been an integral part of the World Series-winning setup. But was moved to shortstop in the middle of last year because of injuries in the team. If he can perform better than last year at defense, Rosenthal says that the Dodgers might have a weapon on the field in defense.

It remains to be seen what will actually happen when the season begins. The season starts in a matter of weeks. It is that waiting period that will determine everything. It almost feels like time to start with action.

New faces, big hopes: The Dodgers’ star-studded offseason shake-up

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made some significant moves this offseason, adding several high-profile acquisitions to their roster. Among the most notable moves was signing two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million contract. This will bolster their pitching rotation.

Besides Snell, the Dodgers signed another outfielder, Michael Conforto. His deal is a one-year, $17 million contract that gives the Dodgers added depth in the lineup. The team also brought back veteran right-handed reliever Blake Treinen on a two-year, $22 million contract. This helps to reinforce the bullpen for the Dodgers. These signings strengthen the roster going into the season.

The team went a step forward with their reinforcements signing Japanese righty Roki Sasaki for a one-year contract worth $6.5 million. At just 23, Roki Sasaki is one of the hottest international free agents that could join any team coming out of the MLB offseason.
