This off-season, quite the whirlwind has taken the Toronto Blue Jays by storm in light of uncertainty that trailed along after a somewhat mediocre 2024 season. The Blue Jays are indeed changing up their chemistry to improve and solidify more areas on the roster. The first base has never been their weakness. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has just been relentless up to this point in his position, consistent season by season. His presence has surely been felt for the Jays. The thing is, the Blue Jays are yet to finalize an agreement with him. There’s a buzz with regard to it.

MLB insider Jon Heyman was asked several questions about what is happening in MLB during his live stream with the Bleachers Report YouTube channel. One of the fans wanted to know about the situation with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and asked, “Vladdy to the Mets??”. The rumor mill has been churning over Vladimir Guerrero Jr. joining the New York Mets. It gained real steam, though, when Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez posted something on Instagram, hinting that he, Juan Soto, and Guerrero might be the ultimate dream team in Queens. Well, fans can’t help but get excited over this powerhouse lineup. That is definitely something to keep an eye on as the season unfolds. These fans are excited, but it remains to be seen!

But the answer from Jon Heyman was very simple and straightforward. He said, “Vladdy is not getting traded. I just don’t believe that Toronto has any inclination to trade their best player. They are going to try to sign him and they have right up until I think it’s February 18th, when he is reporting somewhere in that neighborhood and they are going to make a big effort. Does that mean they are going to be able to sign him? I’m not so sure about that. These star players with one year to go are not often signed; they usually go to free agency.”

He’s talking about what might happen with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays. He says that the team isn’t looking to trade him but is definitely going to try hard in terms of signing him before the contract is up. However, he does add that it will be quite tough to say if they can get it done since many big stars end up going into free agency.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is in his final year of his contract and we’ll see if they are signing him for only a year more. Very few players have ended up in such a position as him with just a year remaining in his contract. Not too many players with him and his only year left to their contract exist. He’s like Mookie Betts when he was almost in a similar situation. It’s going to be quite interesting what happens with Guerrero Jr. down the line. This is going to be the challenging part for the Blue Jays, so we’ll have to sit back and wait for them to see.

The Toronto Blue Jays have been quite active this offseason, making significant moves to strengthen their roster. The Blue Jays signed slugger Anthony Santander to a five-year, $92.5 million deal. But $61.75 million of that contract is deferred, lowering the present-day value to $68.6 million. Coming off a career-best season where he hit 44 home runs and drove in 102 RBIs, he will join the Blue Jays, where he has spent eight seasons with the Baltimore Orioles. It gives them another strong bat to line up over the next couple of years.

The news from the bullpen is that the Blue Jays are interested in veteran Max Scherzer. Although Scherzer’s 2024 season was far from easy, he still put up a solid 3.95 ERA. The Blue Jays are looking at Scherzer to add some depth to their rotation for next season.

There have been rumors circulating about a potential trade involving Vladimir Guerrero Jr., as the Blue Jays are reportedly looking to trade him. The buzz is that they could be trading him for free agent Pete Alonso. However, sportscaster Evan Roberts stepped in to shut down these trade talks. He mentioned that, according to him, the Blue Jays are not planning to trade Guerrero Jr. at this time. So, despite the rumors, it seems like this trade may not be happening anytime soon.
