The hot stove is heating up! While everyone is interested to hear more about the potential trade of Juan Soto to the New York Yankees, some questions need to be answered first. The chief among them is, who will the Pinstripes choose to trade for Soto? The Padres will not let go of the Dominican slugger too easily. And the Yankees most certainly will have to give them high-value trades.

While the Juan Soto trade talks have quieted down a bit due to teams focusing more on free agents, it is almost a certainty that he will get traded this offseason. So how would a possible deal look if the Yankees and Friars decide to trade? One insider has an interesting idea.

Juan Soto becomes a free agent after 2024 but until then, the Padres may not be able to afford his talent. One of the best hitters of today, he would add offensive value to any team he is added to. So when the Friars are likely about to lose him, they would want high-quality prospects. Especially when they’re looking to return to their winning ways after a disappointing season.

The Yankees can fulfill a few of their needs. The Pads aren’t just losing at Soto but have also lost Blake Snell, who entered free agency. They need a quality pitcher and according to Brendon Kuty of The Athletic, Yankees ace Clarke Schmidt could be the one. The pitcher had a terrific 2023 and would be a quality addition to San Diego’s bullpen.

Kuty added three more names to the list – Everson Pereira, Randy Vasquez, and Edgar Barclay. Pereira is a young outfielder who can easily slot into other positions as well. Even though his season was a little underwhelming, his potential is high. The youngster is still a top 3 Yankees prospect.

Vasquez (14th) as a relief pitcher and Barclay (28th) as a promising left-handed option are two prospects that also offer potential power to the Padres. What is the Bronx left with then?

How the Yankees could shape up if this deal goes through

The Bombers are already linked with a few more players like Jordan Montgomery and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Juan Soto’s arrival, coupled with at least one good free agent signing, could turn them into a much stronger team.
